Position Summary:
Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions. Coordinates purchasing activities with Supply Chain, Facilities, GIS, EH&S, Security, R&D, Quality, Instrument, Consumables/Reagents, Marketing, HR, Finance, Legal and Commercial to acquire indirect Goods and Services in a cost effective and timely manner. Processes vendor qualification, purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity. Partner with Indirect Sourcing to develop and execute Supplier selection, evaluation and business awarding process and category sourcing strategies for local and regional initiatives. Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability. Requires domestic or global expertise of assigned commodities.
This position is key in helping Illumina achieve cost savings for Indirect Goods and Servies through appropriate strategies including bidding, price and contract negotiations, vendor consolidation, preferred pricing agreements etc. This position will also be responsible for working with internal stakeholder and Finance team mitigating Supply or Financial risk with outside suppliers.
Responsibilities:
Using appropriate e-tools (Ariba etc.) or IPRF (Internal Purchase Request Form) to manage the RFP process per Global Purchasing Policy or Category strategy.
Responsible for all new vendor pre-screening, onboarding, qualification, and performance monitoring.
Identify Catalog opportunities and partner with the Indirect Sourcing/ stakeholders to lead implementation efforts for these strategies.
Perform spend analysis based on current vendor information and identify opportunities for cost savings,
Track and report savings for each executed strategy.
Ability to communicate purchasing policies and guidelines that effectively balance administrative burden, cost savings, and risk/liability.
Work cross-functionally within a global matrix organizational structure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Develop and implement key supplier measurement metrics.
Work closely with Business Partners to avoid and/or resolve project-specific procurement issues. Ensures purchasing timelines and other purchasing requirements are captured during the project planning phase.
Work closely with Legal, Risk Management, Finance, and Project Management to ensure timely, transparent, and professional negotiations of contracts.
Respond to requests in a timely manner and be proactive in looking for potential sourcing opportunities.
Determine appropriate use of assigned resources to achieve goals and meet schedules.
Participate in meetings/communications with management in support of business reviews/meetings as they relate to significant capital projects/expansions.

Preferred Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in cost reduction and contract negotiations for indirect categories.
Should have a good understanding of ERP systems (SAP/Ariba) to understand how they work and can be used to effectively execute and monitor the business spend.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to deal effectively with pressure, multiple tasks, deadlines, and rapidly changing priorities.
Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build relationships and influence others at all levels within the organization.
Excellent business, financial and negotiating skills are required along with knowledge of quality systems, lean manufacturing processes and project management knowledge.

Preferred Experience/Education:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
