Job Description

Rockstar Games seeks a Software Engineer proficient in C# and WPF to maintain and enhance internal tools used across all departments. Responsibilities include writing high-quality, maintainable code, collaborating with users and designers to gather requirements and debug issues, communicating effectively with global teams, participating in code reviews, and ensuring system stability and a positive user experience. The role involves working on Rockstar’s internal task tracking and project management system, focusing on bug fixes and new feature implementation.

This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar’s state-of-the-art game development studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. 

WHAT WE DO

  • We create and maintain software tools that are used by staff across all departments and disciplines, to support the production and development of Rockstar Games.
  • Our primary responsibility is maintaining and evolving Rockstar’s internal task tracking and project management system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write quality, maintainable, and testable code, following the Information Systems team’s coding guidelines, to fix bugs and implement new features.
  • Work closely with users and UX designers to gather requirements and debug problems.
  • Accurately and effectively communicate with other team members across our global studios, giving meaningful updates on task progress, any issues encountered, suggestions for improvements etc.
  • Participation in the code review process, offering guidance and feedback to less experienced members of the team.
  • Helping to ensure the continued stability and reliability of our products and systems.
  • Helping to ensure a high quality and consistent user experience throughout our tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least one year of experience developing desktop based applications.

SKILLS

  • Good understanding of .NET/C#
  • Familiarity with WPF and XAML.
  • Knowledge of the MVVM application architecture.
  • Experience using Figma, or similar design platform.
  • Strong UX development skills.
  • An ability to consider the wider architecture of a system, focusing on the bigger picture, rather than individual tasks.
  • Ability to work well within a cross-studio team.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
  • Strong communication skills.

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Experience writing and debugging asynchronous code.
  • Understanding of REST API design best practices.
  • Experience writing unit tests, or with test-driven development.
  • Passion for development and games, especially Rockstar products.
  • Familiarity with Java and Spring Framework.
  • Familiarity with Hibernate, or similar ORM
  • Familiarity with MySQL / relational databases.
