Job Description

The Software Engineer II role within Microsoft's Sovereign Cloud Security Fundamentals team involves developing and maintaining security software and tools. Responsibilities include working with stakeholders to define user requirements, implementing efficient and reusable code, utilizing data-driven analysis, creating design documents, breaking down tasks, providing time estimates, and acting as a DRI for system monitoring. The team focuses on enhancing security predictions, automating tasks, and improving operational efficiency across cloud environments. The position requires collaboration within and across teams to build solutions, troubleshoot issues, and address customer feedback. The work directly contributes to Microsoft's mission of securing digital technology and improving global security.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in CS or related field
  • 2+ years technical engineering experience
  • Experience in proposing and driving architecture
  • Experience leveraging feedback for improvements
  • Coding proficiency (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python)
Good to have:

  • Experience in distributed systems and databases

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our International Sovereign Cloud Security Fundamentals Team to develop and maintain security software and tools that ensure the reliability and performance of our security systems. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 2+ years of experience in proposing and driving architecture for high quality solutions.
  • 2+ years of experience in leveraging feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of United States citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid United States passport.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the Privacy or Security domain.
  • Experience in distributed systems and databases.
  • Experience in working with large data volumes.

 

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for features. 
  • Implement features with efficient code that meets existing coding standards and uses established patterns, with emphasis on reusing code where it makes sense.
  • Embrace a systematic approach to analysis and data-driven learning through experimentation. Identifies dependencies, creates, and drives sign-off of design document for a feature, with oversight.
  • Break work down into smaller tasks and provide high-confidence time estimates.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Collaborate within and across the team to build solutions, diagnose and resolve issues, and address customer feedback.
