This Software Engineer III position at Google Photos focuses on Engineering Productivity. Responsibilities include writing product/system development code, participating in design reviews, reviewing code from peers, contributing to documentation, triaging and resolving product/system issues, and debugging. The role requires experience building developer tools to improve velocity, code quality, and health (compilers, automated releases, testing frameworks). The ideal candidate will have experience with data structures, algorithms, and potentially large-scale systems, performance analysis, and accessible technologies. Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years software development experience
  • 2 years experience with data structures/algorithms
  • 2 years building developer tools
  • Code review & feedback
  • Issue triage and resolution
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS
  • Experience with large-scale systems
  • Experience with accessible technologies
  • Proficiency in software test engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience building developer tools that improve developer velocity, code quality and code health (e.g., compilers, automated releases, code design and testing, test automation frameworks).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Proficiency in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
