Job Description

The Sr. Software Architect will be responsible for designing SCADA interfaces for real-time data acquisition, visualization, and control. This includes developing documentation, ensuring designs comply with enterprise architecture standards, and acting as the primary point of contact for SCADA architecture inquiries. The role involves collaborating with teams, providing technical guidance, evaluating solution alternatives, and continuously improving platform performance. Responsibilities also include identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have experience in industries such as utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, or transportation.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of experience designing and implementing SCADA systems
  • Understanding of industry standards and regulatory guidelines
  • Expertise in PLC/RTU programming and SCADA protocols
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information.
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and IoT
  • Certifications such as CISSP or GICSP

Job Details

Key role responsibilities include: 

Design SCADA interfaces to support real-time data acquisition, visualization, and control across various OT devices and systems. 

Develop comprehensive documentation and design artifacts to meticulously capture and articulate solution designs, architectural decisions, and technology evaluations, ensuring clarity and accessibility for the development team, stakeholders, and future reference. 

Ensure solution designs conform and comply with enterprise architecture standards and principles 

Act as the primary point of contact for SCADA architecture-related inquiries. 

Collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams to gather requirements and define use cases. 

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development and implementation teams. 

Evaluate solution alternatives that involve different architectures, design patterns, and frameworks covering both software and hardware domains. 

Continuously assess and improve the performance and usability of SCADA platforms. 

Proactively identify risks and propose mitigation strategies.  

What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence? 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. Significant related work experience will be considered in place of a degree. 

7+ years of experience designing and implementing SCADA systems in industries such as utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, or transportation. 

Thorough understanding of industry standards and regulatory guidelines such as ISA-95, IEC 61850, or NERC CIP 

Proven expertise in PLC/RTU programming, SCADA protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, OPC), and HMI design. 

Strong understanding of industrial networking, including Ethernet/IP, wireless communications, and VPNs. 

Familiarity with cloud technologies, data analytics, and IoT as they relate to SCADA systems. 

Experience in evaluating and improving the performance, security, scalability, reliability, and robustness of large industrial-grade systems. 

Ability to analyze and interpret information from a variety of sources, apply critical and creative thinking to draw conclusions or develop solutions to complex problems. 

An ever expanding mind that is adept at conceptualizing complex ideas quickly and conveying those thoughts to others in a clear, effective, and motivating manner. 

Certifications such as CISSP, GICSP, CSSA, or CSE are a plus
