Sr. Software Engineer, Android

Onward Search is a specialized staffing and talent solutions company that helps professionals find top jobs with the nation’s leading brands. We’re looking to hire a Sr. Software Engineer, Android for a Global Tech client.

This is a 6+ month contract opportunity. The role is fully remote; working EST or CST time zones.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

• 6+ years of software development experience

• Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Java, or similar

• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and software design

• Deep knowledge of Android mobile application development, including framework components and lifecycle management

• Familiarity with software development principles, including design patterns, clean code practices, CI/CD, and scalable architecture

• Experience in test-driven development using tools like Espresso, Robolectric, Appium, or similar

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Experience:

• Building mobile frameworks or SDKs related to Identity, Payments, or Analytics

• Working with Jetpack Compose

• Exposure to AI, ML, or Generative AI technologies

• Proficiency with web technologies such as Node.js, JSON, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3

• Experience shipping Android applications to the Google Play Store

• Working knowledge of Scrum or other Agile methodologies

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and review code for Android mobile applications

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship within a fast-paced development environment

• Lead design and code reviews, enforce best practices, and support continuous integration/testing workflows

• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends

• Build and deliver high-performance features that enhance user experience

• Partner with UX designers, product managers, and fellow engineers to deliver features and enhancements

• Write testable, reliable code and support continuous deployment to production environments

• Participate in design discussions and code reviews to foster a culture of learning and technical excellence

• Support and maintain distributed, large-scale production systems

• Optimize application and platform code for efficiency and performance
