The Staff DevOps Engineer will be a key player on the Data Infrastructure team, working with various departments to implement and operate the global customer-facing SaaS infrastructure. Responsibilities include building and maintaining a resilient application platform, automating deployment and monitoring, troubleshooting site issues, scaling infrastructure, optimizing workloads, and collaborating with teams to bring new features into production. The role requires proactive adherence to security and compliance standards.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in 24x7 production operations.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with containerization technology, preferably Docker.
  • Experience with DataStax Cassandra.
  • Experience with release automation and system administration.
  • Experience using scripting languages and Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Strong understanding of system and networking concepts.

We're seeking a Sr. DevOps Engineer with DataStax Cassandra experience to be a key player on the Data Infrastructure team. He/She will proactively work with Engineering, Product, Services, and other functional departments to implement and operate our global customer-facing SaaS infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced job, thrives on problem solving, and is committed to delivering seamless product availability to large enterprises around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a resilient, secure, and efficient SaaS application platform to meet established SLAs

  • Automate deployment, monitoring, management and incident response

  • Monitor site stability and performance and troubleshoot site issues

  • Scale infrastructure to meet rapidly increasing demand

  • Collaborate with product development teams to optimize workloads

  • Manage cross-functional requirements working with Engineering, Product, Services, and other departments.

  • Collaborate with developers to bring new features and services into production

  • Develop and improve operational practices and procedures

  • Proactively meet standards for information security and compliance, such as ISO, SOX, SSAE 16, etc.

Background & Experience:

  • 5+ years Experience in 24x7 production operations, preferably supporting a highly available environment for a SaaS or cloud service provider

  • experience with cloud infrastructure environments, preferably AWS

  • Experience with containerization technology, preferably Docker

  • Experience with DataStax Cassandra

  • Release automation (Jenkins, etc), system administration, system configuration, and system debugging experience

  • Experience using scripting languages (Python, Node, etc.), Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, etc.) and command execution frameworks

  • Strong understanding of system and networking concepts and troubleshooting techniques

  • Strong interpersonal and teaming skills - ability to set and enforce process and influence engineers who are not direct reports.

  • Ability to operate in an agile, entrepreneurial start-up environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

What success looks like in the role

Within the first 30 days you will:
Onboard into your new role, get familiar with our product offering and technology and code bases, proactively meet peers and stakeholders to become familiar with our use cases and where your expertise can provide guidance. Seek to deeply understand business problems or common engineering challenges and propose software architecture designs to solve them elegantly by abstracting useful common patterns.

By 90 days:
Proactively collaborate on, discuss, debate and refine ideas, problem statements, and software designs with different (sometimes many) stakeholders, architects and members of your team.Take a committed approach to prototyping and co-implementing systems alongside less experienced engineers on your team—there’s no room for ivory towers here.Collaborate with peers to develop processes and process documentation.

By 6 months:
Share support of critical team systems by participating in on-call rotation, learning the characteristics of currently running systems, and participating in improvements.Occasionally serve as a debugging and implementation expert during escalations of systems issues that have evaded the ability of less experienced engineers to solve in a timely manner.
