The DevOps Engineer in the Technical Operations department is responsible to maintain, support and improve the infrastructure required for a DevOps culture, providing right tools and processes needed to seamlessly and efficiently ship code every day with an acceptable level of quality. The engineer will be part of the team driving the DevOps processes and collaboration between product management, software engineering, and operations. 
 
The role falls under the Technical Operations department, which is responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation and maintenance of Nium infrastructure. These systems include highly available and scalable production Java based web applications, as well as Pre-Prod, QA and development environments and tools. Apart from the existing proprietary and ancillary systems, Nium is building the next-generation microservice platform, with fully automated release and deployment cycles, making use of hybrid-cloud infrastructure. The DevOps engineer will be part of the team managing all systems and migrating services to new infrastructure whilst abiding with SLAs.

Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the deployment, management, and troubleshooting of cloud solutions, primarily on AWS.
    • Learn and apply concepts of Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, and Terraform under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.
    • Gain hands-on experience with Linux operating systems and scripting languages like Bash and Python.
    • Support the team in managing and configuring tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, GitLab, and Bitbucket.
    • Assist in monitoring infrastructure and applications using tools like Zabbix, Prometheus, and Grafana.
    • Collaborate with development teams to support their infrastructure needs.
    • Document existing processes and configurations.
    • Actively participate in learning new technologies and improving DevOps practices.
    • Basic understanding of database concepts (MySQL, MSSQL, MongoDB, NoSQL) is a plus.

Requirements:

    • +2 years of experience in a DevOps or similar role.
    • Basic hands-on experience with cloud solutions, ideally AWS (personal projects or coursework are valuable).
    • Familiarity with containerization concepts (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
    • An understanding of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform is preferred).
    • Good working knowledge of Linux operating systems and a willingness to learn scripting languages like Bash and Python.
    • An understanding of CI/CD principles and a desire to learn about tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Bitbucket.
    • Exposure to monitoring tools like Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana.
    • Eagerness to learn and a strong desire to develop a career in DevOps.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
