Summary
The STEP Internship Program at PGA is an immersive 4-month experience from May to August, designed for students to gain practical experience in various transportation disciplines. Description
Purpose & Need
The STEP Internship Program is from May to August and is an immersive experience where students are given the opportunity to explore the many areas of expertise within the transportation industry. While you will spend most of your time learning from PGA’s core engineering disciplines Roadway, Drainage, Structures, and Traffic/ITS you will also spend time learning from our Planning, Landscape Architecture, CEI, Facilities Preservation, Marketing, and Environment groups. STEP students will work side-by-side with PGA staff and will be exposed to project related design tasks. At the end of the program, participants will have a clear understanding of what all goes into bringing a project from pursuit, through design, and into construction.
What You’ll Do
Gain proficiency with construction plans production
Understand the concepts of geometry design
Understand the development of pay item quantities and calculations
Understand the process for development of a project cost estimate
Effectively research projects and assist with marketing efforts
Gain knowledge in all design standards, manuals, and criteria
Requires regular technical supervision of tasks by technical or senior staff
Complete tasks and projects within established supervisor’s expectations
Support technical and senior staff with the development of plans, documents, and reports
Compile documents in PDF for review or submittal

Enrolled in an ABET Accredited Engineering Program

Great verbal communications skills and the ability to interact with a variety of personality types
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards in all work efforts
Ability to work independently and as part of a team on deadline-driven activities
Skill in working with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other Office Products
