Job Description

Hazelight Studios seeks a Technical Artist to contribute to their next game, Split Fiction, using Unreal Engine 5. Responsibilities include developing and implementing high-quality art pipelines, optimizing shaders and materials for performance, creating tools and automation solutions, working with Blueprints, Angelscript, and the Material Editor, balancing artistic vision with technical performance, and collaborating across teams. The ideal candidate possesses strong real-time art pipeline understanding, Unreal Engine 5 expertise (material/shader authoring, scripting, optimization), proficiency in tool creation and procedural workflows, a keen eye for visual quality, and a collaborative spirit.

Job Details

At Hazelight, we create award-winning, story-driven co-op games that push the boundaries of interactive storytelling. From A Way Out to It Takes Two, and now our latest project, Split Fiction, we’ve built a reputation for crafting emotional, cinematic experiences filled with humor, heart, and gameplay-driven narratives.

Now, we’re looking for a Technical Artist to join our team and help bring our next game to life with stunning visuals and efficient pipelines in Unreal Engine 5. You’ll be part of the VFX and Tech Art team, collaborating with artists, designers, and coders to optimize, enhance, and streamline the game’s visual experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement efficient, high-quality art pipelines and workflows in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Bridge the gap between art and technology, optimizing shaders, materials, and assets for performance.
  • Create tools and automation solutions to support artists and improve production workflows.
  • Work with Blueprints, Unreal Angelscript and the Material Editor, HLSL to enhance visual quality and interactivity.
  • Balance artistic vision and technical performance, ensuring assets and effects run smoothly across platforms.
  • Work closely with other teams to seamlessly integrate technical solutions into gameplay and cinematics.

What We’re Looking For

  • A strong understanding of real-time art pipelines and a portfolio demonstrating high-quality technical solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5, material/shader authoring, scripting, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in tool creation, procedural workflows, and automation to enhance efficiency.
  • A keen eye for visual quality, problem-solving, and workflow improvement.
  • A collaborative mindset, you enjoy working across disciplines and solving challenges together.

Bonus Skills 

  • Experience creating tools for different departments to improve production workflows.
  • Familiarity with Blueprints and the Material Editor for interactive effects and optimizations.
  • Experience using Houdini or Blender for procedural workflows and simulations.

About The Company

Hazelight is a Swedish game development studio founded by Josef Fares in 2014. We are based in Stockholm with our offices located in the beautiful facility Münchenbryggeriet by the waterfront.

We aim to push the boundaries for interactive storytelling and engaging emotional experiences. The core team from the acclaimed Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons currently works at Hazelight.

Hazelight’s first game, A Way Out, was released on March 23, 2018 and published by EA under the Originals label.

Now we’re working on our next game It Takes Two!
