Job Description

The Technical Lead will build and lead a team, managing their performance through coaching, performance measurement, feedback, and training. They will provide functional excellence, establishing requirements for technical staff skills and driving capability. This role supports the E2E SC Lead and Site Director, leading the Technical function with responsibility for all technical aspects of the product lifecycle for JMS and CMO products, ensuring supply continuity and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include managing core technical business processes, leading matrix teams, optimizing manufacturing processes, planning the workload of the technical team, implementing new technology, ensuring correct KPIs, providing technical leadership for issue resolution, and budget management. The role also encompasses proactive talent management and ownership of core technical processes, delivery of key projects, and development of business growth opportunities. They must champion Site Safety and Quality Compliance and have GMP-GxP knowledge.
Must have:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy, MSc. in Chemistry, or Bachelors in Engineering
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and technical solution delivery
Good to have:
  • Knowledge from fields of production
  • Process Improvement, Project Management
  • Experience with leading people

Job Purpose:

  • Build and lead a team and manage their performance through coaching, performance measurement, feedback and training needs analysis, focusing on the development of expertise and teamwork to maximize motivation and engagement;
  • To provide functional excellence and establish the requirements for skills, competence and behaviours of Technical staff, and to drive up the capability of staff;
  • To support the E2E SC Lead and Site Director in delivering Site Business and Corporate objectives;
  • Lead the Technical function with responsibility for all Technical aspects of the Product Lifecycle of JMS and CMO products portfolio ( NPI,  Transfer in/out ,Process / product optimization ,PPQ /PCQ (Process/ Cleaning  performance qualification) , change control management , risk management approach , packaging materials management, materials sourcing projects, to ensure continuity of supply, delivering continuous improvements, building capability and developing individuals to enable the site to meet its business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a team and manage their performance through coaching, performance measurement, feedback and training needs analysis, focusing on the development of expertise and teamwork to maximize motivation and engagement;
  • Accountability & effective delivery for the core technical business processes for the site:
    • Process Engineering (New Product Introduction and Technical Transfer to GMS / CMO Sites,
    • Process Capability Continuous Improvement),
    • Product Lifecycle Management (Technical Risk Assessment,
    • Product Control Strategies, Continued Process Verification, Process Robustness Reviews),
    • Packaging Engineering (existing & new packaging trials),
    • Artwork Delivery,
    • De-risking Engineer (delivering PPV, Supplier de-risking projects & supporting Portfolio Optimisation projects),
    • Change Control and Risk Management;
  • Matrix leadership across Technical, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Packaging & Logistics to support product control strategy translation to shop floor (batch instructions, standard work etc), utilising the principles of the Haleon Production System (HAPS);
  • To lead and support management initiatives and provide technical support to the immediate business as required that will ensure continued effective delivery;
  • To optimise new and existing manufacturing processes and equipment by introduction of best practice and new Technology;
  • To plan and co-ordinate the work load of the Technical Team  to ensure that operational objectives are met in accordance with time scales and with regard to the scheduling of  project & support activities;
  • To Lead the Technical function implementing new technology and best practices to deliver competitive advantage, maximising efficiency of plant, equipment and processes;
  • Ensure the correct KPIs are in place and the reporting mechanism is in place to drive performance improvement;
  • Provide technical leadership for the rapid resolution of technical issues impacting supply and product performance investigations through use of root cause analysis (RCA) tools and appropriate Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA), and escalate key site technical issues to the wider GMS technical community for timely resolution;
  • Responsibility for efficient budget management;
  • Proactive Talent Management, including succession planning and capability build within the Technical team
  • Ownership of the core technical business processes for site: PPQ, Material risk assessment, Packaging Introduction and /third party manufacturers, and packaging materials management;
  • Responsible for knowledge management of products throughout their lifecycle;
  • Accountable for on time and right first time delivery of technical aspects of NPI, Value Engineering projects and any others critical projects for JMS and CMOs (PPV, Procurement, quality/ compliance projects…);
  • Support for implementation and identification of new technology industrialization with Engineering/PMO;
  • Delivery of key process improvement/ optimization projects that contribute to key site metrics; Cost of Goods, Process Robustness, Cost of Poor Quality, yield, BNRFT and waste- process;
  • Development of business growth opportunities by establishing strong links with Commercial, Category & R&D teams and assuring Technical considerations are a core component of network and category strategies;
  • Ensure that Site Safety and Quality Compliance are championed as part of Technical team;
  • GMP - GxP knowledge and (as appropriate) experience to support Health Authorities requirements & Respect all GxP standards
  • Perform other duties as per requests from superiors in within agreed job competences.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy, MSc. in Chemistry, Bachelors in Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership role, leading technical teams and delivering technical solutions in Manufacturing or at R&D/Manufacturing Interface (5 to 10 years)
  • Knowledge from fields of production; Pharmaceutical industry/ Quality Assurance/ Product Development
  • Process Improvement, Project Management
  • Experience with leading people
