Job Description

Technical writers at Google Cloud plan, create, and maintain educational content integral to engineering or user experience. This includes documentation, UI text, sample code, videos, and other materials. The role requires explaining complex topics clearly for developers and DevOps. Responsibilities include writing various documentation types (overviews, how-to guides, user guides, API documentation, API reference), creating additional content (articles, images, white papers), organizing existing documentation, identifying gaps, supporting new projects, defining documentation requirements with diverse teams, working with engineers to create and update documentation, editing and clarifying documents, and improving others' writing skills.

Must have:

6+ years technical writing experience
Developer documentation experience
API documentation experience
Ability to document source code
Excellent writing and communication skills

Good to have:

Experience with Cloud Technologies, Linux Kernel, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Ability to learn and document new technologies
Experience in fast-paced environments
Research and write for developers and DevOps

Minimum qualifications:

6 years of experience as a technical writer.
Experience with Developer Documentation, API Documentation, Cloud Technologies, Linux Kernel, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

Preferred qualifications:

10 years of experience as a technical writer.
Ability to learn and document new and emerging technologies.
Ability to cope with fast-paced and constantly changing environments.
Ability to research and write effective documentation for developers and DevOps.
Ability to understand and document source code.

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

Responsibilities

Write technical documentation, including overviews, how-to guides, user guides, API documentation, and API reference.
Create additional content as needed, such as articles, images, white papers, solutions documents, product and project-related communications.
Organize existing documentation, identify documentation gaps, and support new projects.
Define documentation requirements with diverse teams, and work with engineers to create and update documentation sets.
Edit, clarify, and enhance documents written by engineers and others. Help others improve their writing skills through one-on-one consultations and regular office hours.
