Job Summary:  We’re hiring a Principal Backend Java Engineer with a strong background in large scale distributed systems. You’ll work on one of the largest distributed systems in the world, running on thousands of machines and handling petabytes of data. You’ll be developing infrastructure and solving many technical challenges in the areas of distributed computing frameworks, data structures and algorithms. You will be designing and implementing next generation services.  Our customer is embarking on a transition from data centers to Public cloud infrastructure, and you will work on a complete Java stack that serves hundreds of billions of transactions daily.  

Work Location: Remote USA

Key Responsibilities

    • Develop scalable and innovative robust Java code for content aggregation as well as for information indexing, retrieval, processing, and ranking.
    • Build, enhance, optimize, and deploy tools, workflows, systems to process textual data for extraction of relevant information.
    • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of technical requirements and project goals.
    • Write detailed design documents, develop comprehensive automated tests, and coordinate automated deployments.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study.  Master’s degree is preferred.
    • Minimum of 10+ years developing applications in core Java.
    • In-depth knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and systems.
    • E2E software development lifecycle experience, including building and maintaining production grade software.
    • Must have experience working within a GCP environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the English language.
    • Operability experience (logging, monitoring, alerting, debugging).
    • Containerization knowledge (Kubernetes, Docker).
    • Experience with DevOps CI/CD, build tools – maven/gradle.
    • Must – Experience with GCP
    • Prefer – Infrastructure as code (Terraform)
    • Prefer - Experience with Cassandra or Spanner.

The following information is required by pay transparency legislation in the following states: CA, CO, HI, NY, and WA. This information applies only to individuals working in these states.
 
·       The anticipated starting pay range for Colorado is: $214,600 - $268,300.
·       The anticipated starting pay range for the states of Hawaii and New York (not including NYC) is: $228,500 - $285,600.
·       The anticipated starting pay range for California, New York City and Washington is: $250,000 - $312,500. 
 
Unless already included in the posted pay range and based on eligibility, the role may include variable compensation in the form of bonus, commissions, or other discretionary payments. These discretionary payments are based on company and/or individual performance and may change at any time. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
