Microsoft seeks a Principal Software Architect for Azure Object Storage to design, build, and maintain high-traffic, highly resilient services handling millions of requests across global regions. The role involves architecting next-generation enhancements to core Azure Blob Storage for AI scenarios, mentoring engineers, leading technical projects, and taking projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in distributed systems, large-scale storage, and AI systems, along with proficiency in languages like C, C++, C#, or Python. Responsibilities include designing and building scalable and distributed services, ensuring high performance, availability, and scale for a distributed system, and working on AI training and inferencing scenarios.
Must have:

We are looking for a Principal Software Architect - Azure Object Storage who is passionate about distributed storage. We are building the next generation Object Storage capabilities for AI scenarios. Azure Blob Storage is the storage for world’s most powerful AI super computers. It also is the storage behind most popular AI applications like ChatGPT. We want to build novel capabilities for AI training and inferencing scenarios and reimagine storage for the AI era. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C# or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years programming experience in designing products and services in systems and backend.
  • 8+ years of experiences in building quality products and scalable distributed services, and designing and building large scale distributed systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C# or Python.
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C# or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience architecting distributed systems and large-scale storage.
  • Experience with AI System.

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
