About Salesforce
We’re Salesforce, the Customer Company, inspiring the future of business with AI+ Data +CRM. Leading with our core values, we help companies across every industry blaze new trails and connect with customers in a whole new way. And, we empower you to be a Trailblazer, too — driving your performance and career growth, charting new paths, and improving the state of the world. If you believe in business as the greatest platform for change and in companies doing well and doing good – you’ve come to the right place.
Salesforce is expanding our Big Data Services team - looking for experts to drive the way we architect, deliver, and operate the services that run at the heart of our data platform. Our systems deliver trust and scale for critical customer-facing features like business intelligence and data integration as well as internal capabilities like the company's monitoring fabric and detection/response security systems. We are looking to add Software Engineers, with experience building and owning distributed services, who can step up and own big chunks of this vision on these projects.
The Ajna team at Salesforce provides Kafka as a Service at the scale of trillions of messages per day across numerous clusters in Salesforce managed data centers and in public cloud ecosystems. We are the trusted, high volume message bus for Salesforce, running multi-tenant clusters connecting many business units of the company together. The team works on ingest and extensions to the Kafka ecosystem to bridge clusters together and store streams as well as on highly reliable automation for tuning, operating, and scaling Kafka clusters.
We are excited about and actively working towards providing our services in a variety of public cloud substrates (AWS, Azure, GCP, Ali and 1P). We use Kubernetes to abstract cloud-specific infrastructure and provide a cloud-independent Kafka experience to our users. This puts us in a great position to advance and contribute back to the open-source projects we leverage, inside both Kafka and Kubernetes communities.
We are seeking for PMTS to help take us to the next level of scale, performance, and maturity.
Opportunities include:
* Architect our approach to managing our services on different public cloud substrates
* Designing and building deployment automation and change pipelines
* Leading efforts to improve monitoring, alerting, and incident response
* Coaching other engineers on best practices for designing and operating reliable systems at scale
* Contributing to prominent open-source projects
* Measuring and improving the performance and availability of Kubernetes and Kafka
* Building deep expertise with public cloud substrates, Kubernetes and Kafka (or perhaps you already have this?)
Requirements:
* Atleast 1-2 years of Principal engineer experience
* Atleast 5 years experience working on any one of BigData Distributed Services
* Minimum 8 years of experience as Software Engineer
* Experience with Java and any scripting language in a Linux/UNIX data center environment
* Experience in Distributed Systems
* Experience with one or more public cloud substrates e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP
* Experience with one or more of: Kafka, Spark, Kubernetes, Docker, Hadoop, Spinnaker, Terraform
* Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a mission-critical service
* Experience with Agile development methodology and Test-Driven Development
* Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence
* Optional: Prior experience with Kafka as a service
Education:
* MS or BS in Computer Engineer/Science or related field, or
* Relevant work experience with demonstrated success in the above areas at scale
