Job Description

The System Engineer for Security & Defense Projects will be involved in the development and support of state-of-the-art systems. They will participate in defining solutions with customers and stakeholders, and integrating them into the customer environment. Key responsibilities include analyzing customer needs, defining architecture, writing technical specifications, managing documentation, and collaborating with various teams. The role involves ensuring system consistency, conducting integration and verification, and staying updated with new technologies. The engineer will also support clients in resolving technical problems and provide state-of-the-art expertise. The candidate will be required to be a technical passionate to be successful in this role.
Must have:
  • Engineering degree in Electronics or related field.
  • Experience with full development cycle.
  • Experience in end-to-end designing and prototyping electronics/IT systems.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Fluency in English (≥ B2) is mandatory.
Good to have:
  • Experience with cloud technologies.
  • Familiar with Arcadia method.
  • Experience with requirements management tools.
  • Experience with modelling tools.
  • Familiarity with work management solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD environments.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design process and tools.
  • Knowledge of French and/or Dutch.

System Engineer for Security & Defense Projects

Mission:

As part of the engineering group of THALES Belgium, the System Engineer for Defense & Security Projects (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance)  will be involved in the development and support of state-of-the-art systems designed on site at THALES Belgium. He or she shall participate to the definition of a solution with Customers and other different Stakeholders up to its integration into Customer environment.

The System Engineer for Security & Defense Projects will perform key aspects of Systems Engineering and IVVQ (Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification) for integration into military and civilian environments.

The System Engineer for Security & Defense Projects needs to be a technical passionate. Based on his/her previous expertise in electronics, IT or telecommunication systems, he/she will be eager to discover new technologies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Understand and analyse the Customer’s needs;
  • Find the best solution and support the architecture definition to meet the customer requirements;
  • Be the first contributor in the system specification process;
  • Interface with the Customer, for the technical related aspects of the solution;
  • Write technical specification definition and support the subcontractor choice for needed subsystem acquisition;
  • Be in charge of the technical documentation (High Level Design, Low Level Design, Configuration Documents, User Manuals, Testing plan);
  • Be in contact with the Product Design Authority and the IVVQ (Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification) team to define the activities required to develop a solution achieving Customer satisfaction;
  • Prepare, configure equipment for Proof Of Concept (PoC) of solution;
  • Bring state of the art expertise for his/her field of expertise, specialty or domain;
  • Support clients in resolving technical problems and taking advantage of such opportunities;
  • Assure that the system and its sub-components (hardware and software design) are consistent and in line with the specifications and requested functionalities;
  • Assemble the solution/product elements in a logical and controlled manner to evaluate the design, behaviour, interactions and performance, and to confirm that all requirements against which the solution/product has been designed are fulfilled.

Profile:

  • Engineering degree in Electronics / Telecommunications or a related field;
  • Experience with full development cycle (e.g. requirements engineering, design, development, test, integration);
  • Experience in end-to-end designing, 3rd party integration and prototyping electronics/IT systems;
  • Relevant experience in system integration into electronics/IT platforms and understanding of the integration impacts;
  • Experience with cloud technologies, such as Containers, Orchestrators, Hypervisors, Enterprise Service Bus, is a plus, …;
  • Familiar with Arcadia method;
  • Experience with requirements management tools and processes, such as Doors or Polarion;
  • Experience with modelling tools, such as Capella or Enterprise Architect;
  • Familiarity with work management solutions, such as Jira or Redmine;
  • Familiarity with CI/CD environments, such as Jenkins or Bamboo;
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design process and tools, such as Sketch/Zeplin or Figma;
  • Passionate for technologies, continuing education and problem solving;
  • Customer satisfaction and results oriented;
  • Team player;
  • Pragmatic, assertive and well organized;
  • Ability to work independently when needed and be proactive;
  • Innovative and creative mindset;
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written. Fluency in English (≥ B2) is mandatory. Knowledge of French and/or Dutch is desirable;
  • Demonstrated initiative to learn new technologies, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • EU/NATO member state citizenship mandatory. A Security Clearance request will be submitted upon arrival.
