Video Operations Engineer

This position is for Nowtilus, the media tech company in which Equativ invested in 2022. Founded in 2007 in Berlin and Halle, Nowtilus is a pioneer in video advertising and personalization services through its award-winning Dynamic Ad Insertion Platform Serverside.ai, a comprehensive solution that addresses compatibility issues in digital streaming.

Nowtilus helps broadcasters, telcos, and publishers monetize their FAST, AVOD, and OTT TV streaming platforms by offering seamless, personalized, and relevant ad experiences.

Become a part of our SSAI platform team. As Video Operation Engineer, you will be an essential member of our very committed and experienced Scrum team and build features from concept to production.

You will be using state-of-the-art technologies like Microsoft Azure, Node.JS, Redis, MongoDB, Fastly CDN, Akamai CDN, and Elecard Boro to maintain and extend our microservice-based software system.

We are constantly improving our ways of cooperation. Your ideas, feedback and suggestions are much appreciated and taken seriously. You will be part of an international team including Video Specialists, Customer Support Specialists as well as Developers and Development Operations Specialists and Software Architects.

What you will do ✏️

You will work closely with the developers and operations teams to increase the stability, scalability, and security of our software system. With your deep knowledge of video technology and development, you will support the company in improving our Server-Side Ad Insertion platform.

In particular, you will:

- Be the contact person for the development team / dev ops for technical, video-related questions.

- Bring in your knowledge as a Video Operations Engineer to support the product team in finding solutions for customer needs.

- Analyze feature requests from customers and find a strategy on how to implement them.

- Support the operations and QA teams with all technical and video-related questions.

- Be the 2nd level support for our B2B customers.

- Look for the root cause and a fix/mitigation for upcoming customer issues.

- Perform root cause analysis for all critical incidents and when specifically requested by customers.

- Report bugs to the development team and support your colleagues in finding solutions to fix them.

- Analyze incoming data from the customer (video data, manifests, SCTE markers, etc.) for setting up new channels and identifying potential criticality.

- Support the operations team in channel setup and issue analysis. - Analyze the findings of the QA team, check if there are issues in the testing procedures or bugs to be handled by the dev team.

- Identify and potentially work on tickets that can be developed.

Your skills and experience💡

The must-have for excelling in this role:

-3+ years of experience in working with media streaming technologies (IPTV, OTT, HbbTV, MPEG-TS, HLS, DASH or similar).

-Mastery of video and audio codecs, packaging formats, and data transfer of A/V content including video and audio encoding configuration with professional and open-source tools.

-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

-Team player attitude with a strong customer service orientation.

-Fluent English both spoken and written.

Nice to have:

-Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) or frameworks (e.g. Node.JS, React, etc.).

-Experience with video player development.

-Familiarity with different DRM systems.

-Experience in the configuration of CDN systems.

-Worked with web technologies as the underlying architecture for video streaming.
