What you'll be doing...
Verizon is looking for a Engineering Specialist - Accessibility Quality Assurance to execute work in the Verizon Accessibility Team. The successful candidate will have a strong orientation to detail and a passion for continuously improving accessibility. In this role, you will work closely with all levels of our organization, and amongst digital product owners (POs), functional subject matter experts (SMEs), designers and IT, in order to ensure we're delivering accessible experiences for our stakeholders.
Responsibilities will include:
- Running automated scans and complete manual assessments on web pages to identify and log accessibility issues, and suggest and prioritize fixes.
- Staying up to date on modern web development practices and new versions of WCAG and other accessibility requirements and/or best practices.
- Contributing in team ceremonies (stand ups, refinement meetings, sprint planning meetings, etc.)
- Identifying opportunities for accessibility improvements.
- Acting as accessibility evangelist, answering questions and advocating for accessibility best practices.
- Helping design and develop teams understanding of accessibility requirements, available tools, solutions and prioritization.
- Reviewing accessibility requirements with product owners and business systems analysts that provide accessibility acceptance criteria that developers can use to develop
components that meet WCAG 2.1 AA conformance and provide scope for quality assurance testing.
- Building and maintaining relationships, credibility and trust with business, product and technical partners.
- Evaluating, defining, and when required, prototyping appropriate approaches for any proposed accessibility solution.
What we're looking for...
Experienced Accessibility Champion who is dedicated and passionate about Accessibility and Assistive Technology. An individual who understands compliance requirements, yet strives to go "beyond compliance" and work towards the best experiences possible for everyone.
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Three or more years of relevant work experience.
- JAWS, NVDA, Keyboard Only hands-on experience.
- Accessibility Automation and Manual Testing hands-on experience.
- Web Accessibility (WCAG) and Physical Accessibility (ADA) experience.
- Experience creating and presenting presentations to all levels of an organization.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Bachelor's degree
- Technical Writing hands-on experience. (User Guides, Manuals, Templates).
- Strong business acumen.
- Accessibility certification.
- Ability to create Mock-ups and provide Accessible Design Annotation experience.
- Significant experience in developing, implementing and tracking new processes and methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong consulting skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Experience influencing key stakeholders through using expertise and data.
- Experience in Software Development/Engineering practices, including Agile (and writing user stories), DevOps and Cloud tools and methodologies.
- Intermediate- advanced skill level using project management tools, office productivity, and data analytics tools. Advanced Proficiency in Google Suite and/or MS PowerPoint and Excel.
- Significant experience in developing, implementing and tracking new processes and methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong consulting skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Experience influencing key stakeholders through using expertise and data.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $70,000.00 and $148,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
