We are looking for an inspiring and creative Art Director to join our growing team on a full-time basis. As Art Director, you will help us create and maintain Romero Games’ unique visual worlds and experiences for players on PC and consoles. This role requires a combination of creative thinking and strong leadership skills to guide a team in producing content. You will collaborate closely with the other directors, associate directors, and leads to uphold and convey an incredible visual style. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing a team of artists, providing mentorship, and ensuring they adhere to the established visual standards.

Manage, develop, and mentor a multifaceted art team in creating concepts, environments, characters, animations, and user interface, providing timely feedback.
Assist Romero Games in elevating our visual standards and creating immersive, engaging worlds that align with the narrative and fast-paced gameplay.
Collaborate with company leadership in design, programming, and production, anticipating and understanding their needs and requirements to create visually inspiring worlds.
Develop and refine distinctive and captivating designs while adhering to the established production timeline.
Work with the art team to ensure efficient and performant pipelines and workflows.
Inspire and motivate the art team through clear and concise constructive critiques.
Maintain the brand, style guides, and art design documentation to outline the visual style, guidelines, and art assets required for a game.
Work with the art team and outsource partners to make sure they adhere to the visual direction.
Coordinate with publishers and marketing teams to ensure our products are visually represented effectively, while working closely with the product teams.
Understand technical restraints while seeking out innovative solutions.
Collaborate with fellow artists, team leads, and our engineering and design departments to produce game assets of the highest quality.

Experience as an Art Director on a shipped game in a game studio with a proven track record of working on a AAA team.
Proven ability to lead an art team toward a singular vision.
Strong collaborative skills to work with other art directors, directors and leads.
A comprehensive knowledge of various art disciplines within a game development environment.
Expertise in colour theory and its impact on players, mood, and focal points, with an emphasis on maintaining and improving existing art styles.
Expertise in art fundamentals, character and creature anatomy, and a wide array of art styles.
Excellent and timely verbal and written communication as well as demonstrated organisational skills.
Ability to work in an open, transparent environment with others.
Appreciation for the importance of accessibility, diversity, inclusion and equality.
At least 6 years of professional experience in the games industry producing game art as well as experience in lead roles within the games industry.
Ideally, you can relocate to join us in Galway, Ireland, but a remote role is also possible for the right candidate in a European timezone.
