Tesla seeks an Associate Engineering Manager for its Stator, Drive Unit, Production Engineering team in Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg. This leadership role involves mentoring and developing a team of process engineers, optimizing production processes for safety, quality, and OEE, and driving improvements in cost and cycle time. Responsibilities include managing KPIs, leading improvement projects, resolving down events, making resource allocation decisions, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and deploying new processes and equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in high-volume manufacturing, lean manufacturing principles, and structured problem-solving methodologies.

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking an Associate Engineering Manager to join the Stator, Drive Unit, Production Engineering team at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany.  

We are seeking a servant, highly motivated, tenacious, and team-oriented leader to be responsible for the performance and development of a team of  process engineers while driving improvements in overall equipment efficiency, product yield, cost, and cycle time. The Associate Engineering Manager will lead by example and manage, support, and develop the performance of the team to ensure continuous production and enable world-class manufacturing of Tesla’s cutting-edge Drive Units. 

What You’ll Do
  • Mentor, develop and lead a team of process engineers at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg  focused on manufacturing of Drive Units
  • Lead optimization of production processes to ensure safety and quality while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in cost effective means to achieve world-class performance levels
  • Own, report on and drive improvement of area KPI’s including equipment availability, product yield, cycle time and cost
  • Manage the strategy and deployment of improvement projects with a focus on Safety, People, Accuracy, Rate and Cost
  • Coach and assist engineers and technicians in resolving unplanned down events and driving permanent RCCAs, using the 3D/8D process or Lean Six Sigma where applicable
  • Make daily resource allocation decisions, balancing competing priorities, to support the engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, and production teams
  • Serve as backup Engineer for all members of the team both to ensure zero gaps in coverage as well as adequately address issues of escalating complexity
  • Foster collaboration among cross functional teams to develop, install and deploy new processes, and equipment
  • Able to utilize structured problem solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D) 
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Controls and it's application
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent in experience
  • Experience leading teams within heavily automated, high volume manufacturing facilities, including but not limited to assembly, robotics, etc.
  • Exemplary track record of high impact contributions both as an individual engineer and in a management capacity
  • Hands on experience with lean manufacturing principles
  • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments and deliver results in a fast-paced, automated, and semi-automated manufacturing environment
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, dynamically adjusting priorities to meet changing business needs
  • Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Experience with application and teaching of structured problem-solving methodology, such as DOE, Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, etc.
  • Experience with mechanical, automation, robotics, and controls engineering is highly preferred. Understanding of equipment component behavior is a plus
  • Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities, competing priorities, and challenges
