Job Description

Tesla's drive unit development team seeks skilled test engineers to develop, debug, execute, and optimize reliability tests for drive units and subcomponents. Responsibilities include developing comprehensive validation test programs, leading testing efforts, participating in design reviews and DFMEAs, conducting data-driven analysis to root cause failures, and documenting findings. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, driving product improvements, and presenting results to stakeholders. Must have:
  • M.Sc. in relevant Engineering field
  • Experience with Python/MATLAB and data analysis
  • Understanding complex systems & driving improvements
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent project management skills
Good to have:
  • Automotive component/systems testing experience
  • Knowledge of motor, geartrain, and inverter design
  • Experience with data logging/databases, instrumentation, 3D CAD
  • Experience creating and executing design validation plans

Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for skilled and motivated test engineers to develop, debug, execute, and optimize reliability tests for all our drive units and subcomponents. The team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of drive units and is looking for engineers (any level) to help drive our designs to the physical limits. What You’ll Do
  • Develop and implement comprehensive validation test programs for drive units and their subcomponents.​

  • Organize and lead testing efforts, track progress, provide updates, and ensure timely completion.​

  • Participate in design reviews and DFMEAs, collaborate with cross-functional teams to create validation test plans and analyze test profiles and results.​

  • Conduct data-driven analysis to root cause failures, collaborate cross-functional teams to drive product improvements.​

  • Document and present findings to stakeholders through detailed test reports and results analysis.

What You’ll Bring
  • M.Sc. in Engineering in a relevant field (e.g., Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics), or the equivalent in experience, with strong fundamentals and evidence of exceptional ability.​

  • Experience with programming languages, e.g. Python/MATLAB, and other data analysis software.​

  • Aptitude and passion for understanding complex systems and driving product improvements.​

  • Proven ability to perform under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.​

  • Excellent project management skills​

Additional Preferred Skills​

  • Hands-on experience in automotive components/systems testing.​

  • Knowledge of motor, geartrain and inverter design and functionality.​

  • Experience with data logging/databases, instrumentation, 3D CAD software.​

  • Experience creating and executing design validation plans and test methods to validate performance or reliability requirements.
