As a Senior Character Artist at Ubisoft Montpellier, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality, optimized 3D characters aligned with the artistic direction and gameplay requirements. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll model, texture, and integrate characters into the game engine, collaborating with animators, concept artists, and riggers. You'll contribute innovative ideas, adapt to feedback, and mentor team members, staying current with industry trends and techniques. Responsibilities include adhering to technical constraints, suggesting creative concepts, and ensuring a high level of quality throughout the character development pipeline.
Must have:
  • 7+ years Senior Artist experience
  • Proficiency in Blender, Maya, ZBrush, Substance
  • Game engine familiarity (Unity, Unreal)

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Lead Character Artist, you will work within a multidisciplinary team of artists. Leveraging your expertise, you will be responsible for creating the project’s characters in alignment with the creative and artistic direction, while ensuring coherence with the gameplay and narrative. You will develop and integrate high-quality, aesthetically and technically refined characters, taking into account the specific requirements of the game engine.

You will also contribute ideas to improve and enhance existing concepts.

Your responsibilities:

  • Model and texture complex, optimized characters while adhering to technical constraints in a realistic Artistic Direction.
  • Suggest innovative and coherent ideas and concepts aligned with the Artistic and Creative Direction to enrich the game's character design and bring it to an exceptional quality level.
  • Respond to and adapt based on feedback from the Art Director and Technical Direction.
  • Collaborate with Animators, Concept Artists, and Riggers to ensure a high level of quality.
  • Work on the development and integration of characters into the game engine.
  • Advise team members and ensure continuous monitoring of trends and techniques.
  • Collaborate, exchange, and share expertise with the entire Character Artist team to enhance team proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Recognized degree in graphic arts

  • At least 7 years of experience as a Senior Artist within artistic teams.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Blender, Maya, 3DSMax, ZBrush, Substance, etc.
  • Extensive experience in artistic development and production within the Entertainment industry.
  • Familiarity with leading game engines (Unity, Unreal).
  • Key qualifications and attributes:

  • Present a high-quality portfolio.
  • Strong artistic sensibility and cultural awareness.
  • Forward-thinking and innovative, with the ability to drive change through creative and innovative choices.
  • Excellent artistic judgment.
  • Passionate about video games, with a strong connection to the industry.
  • Ability to generate creative and innovative ideas for projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of creative processes.
  • Highly autonomous with strong adaptability to established production methods.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to all project artists.
  • Friendly, constructive, and supportive communication skills.
  • Inspirational communicator, capable of engaging with artistic teams to achieve goals.
