Job Description

The Editorial Assistant role supports the Books Editorial Project Management team, assisting in managing titles and books throughout the publication process. Responsibilities include managing editorial processes, peer review, preparing final typescripts, database management, administrative tasks, and liaising with authors and colleagues. The role is a 9-month contract, running from June 2025 to March 2026. The Editorial Assistant ensures authors receive high-quality service, that books are published to the highest standards, drives author satisfaction, and efficient workflows. It involves building excellent working relationships with internal teams such as production and day-to-day administration.
Good To Have:
  • Experience in academic publishing in an entry-level editorial role.
  • Project management experience.
Must Have:
  • Office experience, including MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Excellent team-working skills to deal with people internally and externally.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and work on own initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)

About the Role

This role is part of the Books Editorial Project Management team (BEPM) that provides operational project management support to manage our titles and books portfolio through the publication process. We’re looking to recruit an energetic and highly organized graduate as an Editorial Assistant to support our Research Publishing editorial teams in Medicine & Life Sciences (MLS). This will be a 9-month contract, running from June 2025 to March 2026, based out of our New Delhi office.

The Editorial Assistant provides a vital role in supporting the Editorial team by ensuring that our authors receive a high quality of service, that our books are published to the highest standards, driving our authors satisfaction and reputation as a market and thought leader while we operate highly efficient workflows.


As well as providing core support to the Editorial teams, the role involves building excellent working relationships with internal teams such as production, and day-to-day administration. 

Responsibilities

  • Managing editorial processes including the peer review process for new proposals.
  • Preparing final typescripts for handover to production and creating workflow reports.
  • Database and systems management.
  • A wide range of administrative tasks including payment processing.
  • Liaising with authors as well as with colleagues in production and editorial.
  • Liaising with academics during the peer review process.

Experience

  • Office experience, including using MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Experience of working in academic publishing in an entry-level editorial role would be an advantage.
  • Project management experience would also be an advantage as this role requires a high level of organisational skills.

  • Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels.
  • Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders.
  • Be able to organise and prioritise numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
  • Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries.
  • Be able to demonstrate good publishing business awareness and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) and be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail.

Qualifications     

College graduate or a vocational level HBO.
