DNEG seeks an Environment Generalist TD to collaborate on high-caliber feature film projects. Responsibilities include creating and composing photorealistic environments using various techniques (Digital Matte Painting, 2.5D, 3D). The role involves modeling, sculpting, texturing, look development, layout, lighting, re-projection, and making artistic and technical decisions. Collaboration with multiple departments globally is crucial. Experience with Houdini, Maya, Zbrush, Substance/Mari, SpeedTree, Gaea, and Nuke is essential. The ideal candidate possesses a strong artistic eye, understands cinematography and VFX processes, and can work effectively within a global team.
Must have:
  • Environment modeling, sculpting, texturing
  • Layout, lighting, rendering, digital matte painting
  • Understanding of photography, composition, cinematography
  • Proficiency in Houdini, Maya, Zbrush, Substance/Mari, SpeedTree, Gaea, Nuke
  • Experience with procedural workflows
  • Knowledge of natural world & architecture
  • Experience with shoot data (photogrammetry, Lidar)
  • High-end VFX experience for film
Good to have:
  • Houdini Solaris rendering experience
  • Unreal Engine, real-time rendering experience

Position at DNEG

Environment Generalist TDs at DNEG are passionate about collaborating and problem solving to create and compose spectacular photorealistic environments on our highest calibre feature film projects.
 
Our environment artists work within a global, supportive and multi-talented team altering and extending environments in live action plates or designing, composing and rendering environments from the smallest blade of grass to entire galaxies. They need excellent communication skills to collaborate and interact with multiple departments and colleagues around the world, ensuring their artistic and technical solutions integrate with the rest of the pipeline.
 
Based on the requirements of each production we devise efficient and creative approaches to produce our environments using Digital Matte Painting, 2.5D and manual or procedural 3D approaches where appropriate.
 
Supported by your team, you will be able to utilize and develop your diverse skill set. Your tasks may include modelling, sculpting, texturing, look development, layout, lighting and re-projection and require you to make artistic and technical decisions on a day-to-day basis.
 
Must Have
  • Experience of environment modelling, sculpting, texturing, layout, lighting, rendering and digital matte painting for high-end broadcast or feature film projects.
  • A good understanding of photography, artistic composition and cinematography.
  • Thorough understanding of 3D and 2.5D VFX processes and production pipelines.
  • Experience of Houdini, Maya, Zbrush, Substance/Mari, SpeedTree, Gaea and Nuke.
  • Experience with using or creating procedural workflows for buildings, cities, vegetation, ecosystems, terrain, cliffs or debris.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the natural world (geology, geography, and meteorology) and architecture (design and engineering).
  • Experience working with shoot data including photographic and reference data, HDRIs, photogrammetry, and Lidar.
  • A showreel demonstrating experience in the creation of realistic environments for motion pictures.

Nice to Have  
  • Experience of rendering in Houdini Solaris
  • Experience of Unreal Engine, realtime rendering.
