Synechron is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Functional QA Engineer specialized in API Testing to join our testing team. The role involves validating the functionality, performance, and reliability of web and mobile applications through comprehensive testing practices. The incumbent will ensure that systems meet quality standards, function correctly, and deliver a seamless experience for end-users. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of our digital solutions, supporting the organization’s objective to deliver high-quality products efficiently.

Software Requirements

  • Required:
    • Postman for manual API testing
    • Test management tools such as Azure DevOps, ALM, or JIRA
    • SQL-based tools for backend validation (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio, MySQL Workbench)
  • Preferred:
    • Automated testing tools like Selenium or API automation frameworks
    • Mobile testing tools (e.g., Appium)
    • Cloud-based testing environments or integrations

Overall Responsibilities

  • Execute manual testing for web and mobile applications across UI, backend, and API layers
  • Develop, review, and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts aligned with project requirements
  • Conduct API testing to validate system responses and data accuracy using tools like Postman
  • Perform backend validation by writing and executing SQL queries to ensure data integrity
  • Log, track, and report bugs or issues identified during testing using industry-standard tools
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, product owners, and business analysts to clarify requirements and resolve issues
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing activities, results, and defect reports
  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in software testing and quality assurance

Technical Skills (By Category)

Testing & Automation Tools:

  • Essential: Postman (manual API testing), Azure DevOps, JIRA, ALM
  • Preferred: Selenium, API automation frameworks (e.g., RestAssured, Karate)

Programming & Scripting:

  • Preferred: Basic scripting knowledge (Python, JavaScript, or similar) for test automation

Databases/Data Management:

  • SQL proficiency: writing and executing queries to validate data during backend testing

Mobile Testing:

  • Experience with mobile testing on Android and iOS platforms (preferred but not mandatory)

Development Methodologies:

  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments

Other Skills:

  • Knowledge of RESTful API principles and testing best practices
  • Familiarity with performance testing basics (e.g., load testing) is a plus
  • Understanding of SDLC and STLC processes

Experience Requirements

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in software testing, with a focus on functional and API testing
  • Demonstrated experience in testing web and mobile applications
  • Proven expertise in designing and executing test cases and bug reports
  • Hands-on experience with manual API testing using Postman or similar tools
  • Background working in Agile teams and supporting continuous delivery

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Conduct manual testing of APIs, mobile, and web app functionalities based on test plans
  • Write and maintain test cases, scripts, and defect reports
  • Collaborate with developers and business teams during sprint cycles to understand requirements and validate functionality
  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Review and analyze system logs and data to identify issues during backend testing
  • Ensure tests are executed in accordance with project timelines and quality standards
  • Update test documentation and communicate testing progress and quality metrics to stakeholders
  • Reproduce, troubleshoot, and document defects with clear, actionable information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent professional experience acceptable
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ISTQB, CTAL) are advantageous but not mandatory
  • Ongoing professional development in testing tools, automation, and emerging testing practices
