Job Description

The Immigrant Case Worker provides case management to refugee and immigrant families, offering ongoing cultural adjustment support, orientations, referrals, and mediation services. The role involves collaborating with community organizations, churches, landlords, and service providers to facilitate successful community integration. Responsibilities include conducting client assessments, developing service plans, coordinating interdepartmental services, providing financial education, and offering mediation between clients and external entities. Administrative tasks encompass maintaining accurate client files, managing financial requests, participating in meetings, and supervising interns. This position is based in Chicago and requires occasional visits to clients in northern Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. The role is a limited-term position funded through a grant until June 30, 2026, contingent upon funding extension.
Must have:
  • Provide timely and appropriate services to refugee and immigrant families.
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments and develop service plans.
  • Maintain timely and accurate client files and reporting records.
  • MS Office skills required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive 15-passenger van.
Good to have:
  • Direct-service experience with immigrant populations preferred.
  • Cross-cultural experience and/or knowledge of the refugee/immigrant experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with people of varying English levels.
  • MSW or BSW preferred.
  • Understanding of social service provision in Illinois and Chicago.
  • Proficiency in languages spoken by the communities served (e.g., Spanish, Rohingya, Burmese, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Swahili, French).

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy. POSITION SUMMARY: This position has responsibility for providing case management to refugee and immigrant families, including providing ongoing cultural adjustment support, orientations, referrals, and mediation services. The Immigrant Case Worker will work closely with community organizations, churches, landlords, and service providers to promote successful community integration. This position is based in Chicago and may require visits to clients primarily in northern Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until June 30, 2026 and contingent upon funding extension. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Client Services
  • Ensure provision of timely and appropriate services to refugee and immigrant families to foster their ongoing integration. Service provision includes assisting clients with: Public Aid management, enrolling in English classes, referral to legal services for adjustments of status, and referrals to various community resources. 
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments with clients, develop individual service plans, and facilitate connections to appropriate services. 
  • Coordinate interdepartmentally to provide wrap-around services. 
  • Provide education/orientation to clients around budgeting, paying housing and utility bills, and connect clients to financial resources when appropriate.
  • Provide mediation services between clients and outside entities (i.e., neighbors, landlords, volunteers, service providers, etc.).
  • Assist team in conducting workshops for educating clients and orienting them to life in the US.   Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain timely and accurate client files, case notes, and reporting records. 
  • Request checks from the finance department and ensure clients receive funds in a timely manner. 
  • Actively participate in department meetings, staff development opportunities, program trainings, community activities, and organizational events.
  • Provide supervision and accountability for department interns.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and Volunteer Services staff to support the work of volunteers engaging with clients to meet the goals of the client’s service plan.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • MS Office skills required
  • Valid driver’s license, and ability/willingness to drive 15-passenger van required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Highly self-motivated with strong follow-through and ability to work independently. 
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records
  • Strong mediation and problem-solving skills
  • Direct-service experience with immigrant populations preferred
  • Cross-cultural experience and/or knowledge of the refugee/immigrant experience
  • Excellent communication skills with people of varying English levels
  • MSW or BSW preferred
  • Understanding of social service provision in Illinois and Chicago
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
