Our blockchain team is dedicated to the conception, design and implementation of a best-in-class software platform providing our users with the ability to work seamlessly within this new and highly technical space. Previous blockchain experience, while desirable, is not required and so this is an excellent opportunity for anybody who has an interest in growing their skills and experience in this novel and fast-moving field.
Your mission
We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to be part of our Platform Engineering team and be responsible for overseeing our on premise and cloud based compute, networking and storage infrastructure.
The responsibilities include implementation of new applications, configuration, upgrades and maintenance, optimisation, as well as level 3 infrastructure support of our infrastucture. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud computing, system administration, software development, and a passion for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
What you'll do
- Monitor and administer the business's virtual server infrastructure in a multi-location environment based on Linux OS running in OpenStack and GCP.
- Providing Systems Administration and maintenance for our monitoring and alerting tools used for platform observability, which includes Grafana, Prometheus, AlertManager and ElasticAPM.
- Control the OS patching lifecycle including repositories maintenance, packages release and reports generation using Ansible/Terraform based automation tools.
- Work with security team's to ensure that the organisation's technology platforms, infrastructure and systems are hardened and have the right level of security observability.
- Work closely with our data centre partners' engineering teams ensuring all hardware processes from selection, specification, architecture and maintenance are as efficient and seamless as possible.
- Respond to any platform and infrastructure related issues that may arise and work with data centre partners, external service providers and vendors where required, ensuring that SLAs are being met
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to incidents and emergencies in a timely manner. Working alongside Customer Service Desk and Software Engineers and assist with conducting root cause analysis and post mortems.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate business processes using the available tools.
- Maintain up to date documentation of our environments, sharing knowledge freely with other teams as required.
- Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, customers and delivery teams on platform and infrastructure related matters
What you'll bring
- Minimum of 3 years’ of system administrator experience working with Linux based systems (Ubuntu or CentOS) in a large scale, distributed Linux based production environment.
- Experience supporting 24x7 infrastructure and enterprise applications in medium sized enterprises.
- Significant understanding and working experience using Public and Private clouds and virtualisation platforms: OpenStack, Google Cloud Platform or AWS
- Extensive experience with automation, configuration management using Ansible and/or Terraform and scripting in Linux environment (bash, python, etc.)
- Good knowledge of configuring and maintaining platform health monitoring tools like Prometheus, AlertManager, Grafana, ElasticAPM, Splunk or equivalent.
- In-depth understanding of network OSI model and web protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DHCP and DNS
- Knowledge of container orchestration systems like Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Openshift
- Experience using enterprise security tools including IDS/IPS, Content filtering or SIEM.
- Knowledge of services such as email/SMTP, web, IM, DNS, SNMP and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system and network problems
- Strong working knowledge of setting up and managing Active Directory / LDAP
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours when needed, including international travel to office locations within the UK and Europe.
- Ability to meet project deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Full English proficiency, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
