As an IRS / EIN Specialist, you will obtain Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) from the IRS for newly formed companies. You will represent clients in communication with the IRS via phone, ensuring accurate and timely processing of EIN requests. You will also assist in collecting information for ITIN applications and submitting them to a third-party vendor. You will work closely with the tax team to help with client-related requests involving the IRS. This role requires daily contact with the IRS during US business hours to obtain EINs on behalf of clients, managing EIN applications and maintaining records, addressing any issues related to EIN acquisition, and collaborating with internal teams to meet client needs.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of IRS experience, particularly with EIN acquisition.
  • Active PTIN, SSN, or CAA/EA certification.
  • Strong understanding of IRS procedures and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
Good to have:
  • Experience processing ITIN applications.
  • Experience generating weekly reports.
  • Experience with IRS abatements and POAs.
  • Prior experience in a business formation company.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced IRS / EIN Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for obtaining Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) from the IRS for newly formed companies. You will represent our clients directly in communication with the IRS via phone, ensuring accurate and timely processing of their EIN requests. You will also be responsible for helping collect information from clients for their ITIN applications and remitting it to a 3rd party vendor. You will work closely with the tax team to help with their requests as it relates to our clients and the IRS.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Contact the IRS via phone daily during US business hours to obtain EINs on behalf of our clients.
    • Represent clients professionally and ensure compliance with IRS regulations.
    • Manage and track EIN applications, maintaining meticulous records of all interactions and documentation.
    • Address any issues or follow-ups related to EIN acquisition efficiently and effectively.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure client needs are met in a timely manner.
    • Own the internal process of submitting ITIN applications to a 3rd party vendor
    • Report weekly on performance (ITINs submitted, EINs extracted, Cases In progress, AVG extraction time, etc)

Skills and Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 3+ years of experience working with the IRS on various cases, particularly involving EIN acquisition.
    • Active PTIN number, SSN number, or certification as a CAA (Certified Acceptance Agent) or EA (Enrolled Agent).
    • Strong understanding of IRS procedures and compliance requirements.
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to represent clients professionally.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
    • Ability to work in the US timezone and manage daily IRS interactions effectively.

Nice to haves

    • You know the process and have processed ITIN applications
    • You are good at reporting and have generated reports on a weekly basis previously
    • You have worked with the IRS on abatements and POAs
    • Prior experience in a business formation company is a plus
