Omitron is seeking a Junior Orbital Analyst for its Vandenberg Operations Team. This role involves monitoring, analyzing, and predicting the behavior of space objects to ensure satellite asset safety in a congested space domain. The Junior Orbital Analyst will work with mid-level OAs and Engineers, assist in analyzing orbital data from various sources, and understand orbit determination, tracking, and prediction using mathematical models. Responsibilities include supporting data processing systems, applying orbital mechanics to real-world problems, compiling statistics on space objects, and collaborating with the team to track potential collision risks. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or an Associate's degree with 2 years of relevant experience or 4+ years of relevant experience. A DoD secret security clearance is required, with the ability to attain TS/SCI. Basic proficiency in a scripting language like Python is also necessary.

  • Proficiency in Python 2.

Omitron is looking for a talented and motivated Junior Orbital Analyst (OA) to join our Vandenberg Operations Team. We are a company rooted in ensuring mission success across flight operations, trajectory design and analysis, software tools for Space Domain Awareness (SDA), and On-Orbit Spaceflight Safety. You will work closely with mid-level OAs and Engineers to ensure successful mission operations along with developing and delivering products which enable government customer situational awareness and decision making.

As a Junior Orbital Analyst (OA), you will play a key role in monitoring, analyzing, and predicting the behavior of space objects. OAs ensure the space flight safety of our customers’ satellite assets in a congested space domain. Your expertise in orbital mechanics and data evaluation will be pivotal to overall mission success. A successful Junior OA will execute processes to coordinate and integrate relevant information and findings across multiple areas to deliver space analysis products and analytics. You will collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of engineers, analysts, and Team Leads to support space operations and advance Omitron’s position as a leader in the space industry. This position also has the potential to broaden into other areas such as conjunction assessment, proximity operations, research projects, and various other technical tasks related to orbital analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of orbital data obtained from various sources, such as ground or space-based sensors and owner/operator Ephemeris data
  • Demonstrated understanding of orbit determination to include tracking and predicting the orbits using mathematical models and algorithms
  • Proficient understanding of space surveillance sensors, networks, and observation data, including capabilities and limitations
  • Willingness to study and understand orbital or space science data and non-regular data message management
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of data processing systems and software tools used in orbital analysis
  • Ability to learn how to apply orbital mechanics to real world problems
  • Aptitude on compiling statistics based on current space object population
  • Collaborate with mid-level and senior orbital analysts to track potential collision risks and other threats

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field. Or, have one of the following:
    • Associates Degree with 2 years of relevant work experience
    • 4+ years of relevant work experience  
  • Requires a DoD secret security clearance with an ability to attain a TS/SCI
  • Basic proficiency in a scripting language such as shell, Perl, or Python
  • Strong understanding of space surveillance and tracking systems, such as radar and optical sensors
  • Ability to compile and analyze statistics based on current space object population
  • Strong understanding of non-regular data message management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience involving space domain data 
  • Robust knowledge of orbital mechanics
  • Familiarity with Python numerical and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy, etc.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with a track record of resolving complex orbital anomalies
  • Familiarity with Linux-based OS, particularly Red Hat or Suse.
  • Proficiency in Python 2


Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $125,000, depending on education level, relevant experience, and other factors.

Security Clearance Requirements:

A DoD Secret clearance is required as a minimum.  Candidates must be willing to complete a background investigation and application for upgrade to a TS/SCI clearance, if necessary
