What You’ll Do
Samsung Semiconductor Inc. is seeking an IP manager who has a materials science, electrical engineering, and/or computer science technical background, and intellectual property (patent) experience. The person will be responsible for patent drafting and prosecution, infringement detection, freedom to operate analysis, and IP portfolio management including patents, trade secrets and know-hows. S/he should be able to understand new inventions and technologies quickly, and collaborate with both inventors/engineers and outside patent attorneys, host invention harvest meetings, and lead patent review committees for invention quality grading.

Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose office in alignment with our Flexible Work policy

• Patent Prosecution management- including reviewing and evaluating with the Review Committee invention disclosures, patent drafts, and office actions with inventors and outside counsel, and providing relevant guidance.
• Outside Counsel Management- including reviewing work product for quality, timliness, responsiveness, and expense.
• Freedom to operate and infringement detection
• IP Portolio Management based on patent analysis- making important patent lifecycle and prosecution decisions to optimize portfolio value while controlling costs.
• Harvest inventions- Including understanding lab activties, scheduling and running technical discussions with engineers, and assisting in documenting all IP discovered.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

What You Bring

• BS in Material Science, EE, or CS, with 10+ 3-5 years industry experience preferred.
• Strong mathematical ability allowing comprehension of electrical engineering, physics, material science, and software arts.
• Registered patent agent/attorney
