GoFundMe seeks an Engineering Manager to lead and expand the non-profit direct giving experience. This role involves leading a team, developing new features to improve NPO direct giving (optimizing donation flows, simplifying UIs, increasing conversion rates), driving GenAI-powered fundraising tools (personalized prompts, campaign optimization, content creation), collaborating with product, data, and design teams, and working with nonprofit partners. Responsibilities include platform development, GenAI strategy and innovation, cross-functional collaboration, data-driven decision making, building scalable systems, and ensuring inclusive design. The manager will also lead the creation of e-commerce features for nonprofits to sell products directly through campaigns.

Join us! GoFundMe is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and expand the non-profit direct giving experience on our platform. This leader will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of fundraising for nonprofits, drive improvements to conversion rates, and build the next generation of Generative AI (GenAI)-powered fundraising experiences. You will lead a team of engineers, collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and design, and work closely with nonprofit partners to create innovative solutions that empower organizations to raise more money and build stronger relationships with their supporters.

As an Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in driving the strategy and execution of high-impact initiatives, from improving direct giving experiences to harnessing the power of AI for personalized fundraising solutions. Your leadership will help create a more inclusive, transparent, and efficient environment for non-profits to achieve their missions.

Candidates considered for this position will be located or willing to relocate to San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid role with expectations to go into the SF office 3x per week

The Job…

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team dedicated to NPO fundraising initiatives, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high-quality code.
  • Platform Development: Oversee the development of new features and enhancements that improve the NPO direct giving experience, including optimizing donation flows, simplifying user interfaces, and increasing conversion rates for nonprofit campaigns.
  • GenAI Strategy & Innovation: Drive the development and implementation of AI-driven fundraising tools, such as AI-powered personalized donation prompts, campaign optimization, and content creation for nonprofit fundraisers. Collaborate with AI researchers and engineers to build next-gen solutions that improve fundraising success and donor engagement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, and Nonprofit Stakeholders to define the roadmap and ensure successful product launches. Advocate for engineering best practices and align product goals with technical execution.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use data analytics and customer feedback to iterate on features and optimize the platform’s performance. Build systems that enable robust measurement of NPO campaigns’ impact and success.
  • Scalable Systems: Ensure that all new systems and features are scalable, maintainable, and robust. Help to refine the platform architecture to handle increased traffic, more transactions, and larger volumes of fundraising data.
  • Inclusive & Accessible Design: Ensure the platform is accessible to a diverse range of nonprofits, from large organizations to small grassroots causes. Champion inclusive design and accessibility standards to meet the unique needs of the nonprofit sector.
  • E-commerce for Nonprofits: Lead the creation of e-commerce features that enable nonprofits to sell products (such as merchandise, tickets, or other goods) directly through their fundraising campaigns. These features should seamlessly integrate with donation capabilities to increase overall fundraising potential.

You… 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering management, with a track record of building and leading teams.
  • Experience with generative AI and machine learning technologies, particularly in natural language processing, personalization, and automation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience building e-commerce features or platforms, especially in non-traditional sectors (e.g., nonprofit fundraising), with a strong understanding of payment systems, order management, and digital product offerings.

Preferred… 

  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and DevOps processes.
  • Experience in the nonprofit tech space, including familiarity with popular fundraising tools and platforms
  • Experience working with payment processing systems (Stripe, PayPal, etc.) and related e-commerce tools.
  • Experience with GenAI driven products

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $210,000 - $280,000 + equity + benefits.  As this is a hybrid position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
