Job Summary

Job Description

The Materials Team Lead will help achieve and maintain materials team goals, including safety observations, reduction of quality errors with audits and implementing resolutions, parts picking for sales order, material market set up, and identifying process improvements to meet productivity goals. This role involves coaching team members, managing daily metrics, supporting production flow, and fostering continuous improvement.
Must have:
  • Update and track materials and value stream MDI metrics daily regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Cash and Culture.
  • Coach team members on standard work, MDI Metrics and overall material workflow.
  • Become proficient in all SAP functions required of the materials lead position.
  • Support production and material flow to ensure processes run smoothly and uninterrupted.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture within their team.
  • Perform audits on material flow processes, supermarket accuracy, and pick accuracy.
  • Perform training for employees on mobile equipment.
  • Set daily work schedules to ensure that all production needs are met.
  • Support daily functions and core HR Operations for team member relations.
  • Stay current on all available resources to deliver an exceptional team member experience.
  • Respond to team member questions and concerns promptly and courteously.
  • Follow company procedures related to HR processes and handling confidential information.
  • Foster an inclusive, diverse, safe and empowered work culture.
  • Communicate safety hazards and improvement ideas to team.
  • Participate in safety awareness programs.
  • Verify the completion daily hoist, equipment, safety and 5S checklists.
  • Update market and departmental safety crosses daily.
  • Ensure team meets the monthly goal for safety observations.
  • Understand and train in accordance with the current standard work.
  • Ensure market location integrity and pick accuracy through daily/weekly audits.
  • Utilize and coach team members on the red-tag process and how to identify non-conforming material.
  • Lead daily start up and mid shift meetings to conduct necessary stretches and review performance.
  • Align daily resources to meet the needs of production and ensure cross-training.
  • Escalate unresolved issues and opportunities affecting material flow to plant staff.
  • Make tactical decisions on where staffing is placed based on business priorities.
  • Follow up throughout the day on quantity of staff needed for the workload.
  • Review Cost/Efficiency/Accuracy metric on MDI at Start Up meeting.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to minimize downtime.
  • Process scrap correctly.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Updates and tracks materials and value stream MDI metrics daily in regards to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Cash and Culture.
  • Coaches team members on standard work, MDI Metrics and overall material workflow.
  • Becomes proficient in all SAP functions required of the materials lead position.
  • Supports production and material flow to ensure processes run smoothly and uninterrupted.
  • Fosters a continuous improvement culture within their team.
  • Performs audits on material flow processes, supermarket accuracy, and pick accuracy.
  • Performs training for employees on mobile equipment.
  • Sets daily work schedules to ensure that all production needs are met.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources Functions

  • Supports the daily functions and core HR Operations for team member relations. Employee scheduling, timekeeping, talent management, development and team engagement.
  • Stay current on all available resources, including company communication, to deliver an exceptional team member experience.
  • Responds to team member questions and concerns promptly and courteously, directing them to appropriate resources and leaders for escalation, if needed.
  • Follows company procedures related to HR processes and handling confidential information.
  • Fosters an inclusive, diverse, safe and empowered work culture.

Safety Functions

  • Communicates safety hazards and improvement ideas to team.
  • Participates in safety awareness programs.
  • Verifies the completion daily hoist, equipment, safety and 5S checklists.
  • Updates market and departmental safety crosses daily.
  • Ensures team meets the monthly goal for safety observations.

Quality Functions

  • Understands and trains in accordance with the current standard work.
  • Ensures market location integrity and pick accuracy through daily/weekly audits.
  • Utilizes and coaches team members on the red-tag process and how to identify non-conforming material.

Delivery Functions

  • Leads daily start up and mid shift meetings to conduct necessary stretches, previous day’s performance, and other pertinent information.
  • Aligns daily resources to meet the needs of production. Makes sure the team is cross-trained enough to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Escalates unresolved issues and opportunities affecting material flow to plant staff during GEMBA walk and related MDI tools (Managing for Daily Improvement).

Cost Functions

  • Makes tactical decisions on where staffing is placed based on business priorities for that day
  • Follows up throughout the day on quantity of staff needed for the workload to ensure each market is balanced based on production
  • Reviews Cost/Efficiency/Accuracy metric on MDI at Start Up meeting.

Cash Functions

  • Applies Lean Manufacturing principles to minimize downtime both in the market and at the production lines.
  • Processes scrap correctly.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Associates degree or coursework towards Bachelor’s Degree is preferred

Experience

  • 5+ Years’ experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • ERP System (SAP, MFG, PRO, M2K) experience.
  • Prior leadership and training experience desired.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and use of initiative to meet a defined target or project goal.
  • Experience of Lean manufacturing methodologies and/or continuous improvement.
  • Certified to operate and train on mobile equipment such as Sit Down Forklift, Standup Reach Truck, and Tugger.
  • Experience creating and utilizing basic spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.

  • Able to move product efficiently and safely.
  • Willing to cross train and work in other areas of the plant, as needed.
  • Flexible work Schedule ( e.g. Nights, weekends) and regular attendance necessary.
