Microsoft is seeking a Motion Creative Director to lead the design vision and execution for their AI companion, Copilot. This player/coach role requires both strategic direction and hands-on motion design expertise. Responsibilities include driving the development of world-class AI applications across various platforms (Copilot, Edge, Bing, Windows, Mobile), understanding user needs, managing product development, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of user experience, design thinking, and data-driven decision-making, along with experience in branding, marketing, and working collaboratively with multiple teams. The position requires a passion for crafting magical user experiences within Microsoft's design principles, prioritizing quality, simplicity, safety, and kindness.
Must have:
  • 8+ years experience in product/service design OR Master's degree and 6+ years experience
  • 5+ years motion design experience
  • 4+ years creative direction experience
  • Experience collaborating with multiple teams
  • Ability to create and tell compelling stories across the design portfolio
Good to have:
  • Experience working with branding, marketing, and product design teams

By applying to this U.S. Mountain View, CA position, you are required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design

    • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design

    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years' experience in motion design. 
  • 4+ years' experience in creative direction.  
  • Experience working with branding, marketing and product design teams. 
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with multiple teams. 
  • Ability to create and tell stories broadly, across the entire portfolio. 

Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

  • Drive building world-class AI applications that will delight consumers across Copilot, Edge, Bing, Windows and Mobile.   
  • Own a product area and be responsible for understanding user needs and behaviors, defining product requirements, managing end-to-end product development, launches and iterations.  
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.   
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, design-driven, product development cycle.  
  • Translate business goals into strategy, user experience and technical requirements in close collaboration with UX designers and AI model training teams.  
  • Define goals and performance indicators, set up and oversee experiments, measure success with data and research.  
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to build exceptional consumer-grade applications.
