The PM Weekend Anchor/Multimedia Journalist will anchor weekend mornings and report three days a week. Responsibilities include anchoring broadcasts, presenting weather forecasts, generating story ideas, reporting live on location, writing stories, researching stories, collaborating with various departments, making community appearances, building a network of sources, and meeting deadlines. This role requires strong on-camera presence, journalistic ethics, and the ability to work under pressure. The candidate will be reporting for KNXV, an ABC station owned by The E.W. Scripps Company in Phoenix, Arizona.

Job Details

KNXV, The E.W. Scripps Company ABC station in Phoenix, Arizona is looking for a PM Weekend Anchor/Multimedia Journalist. We want a reporter first – someone who brings high-energy storytelling both to the anchor desk and the field. You’ll anchor weekend mornings and report three days during the week, requiring versatility and drive.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Anchor weekend morning broadcasts. Report 3 days/week.

  • Present weather forecast for weekend morning broadcasts.

  • Generate compelling story ideas tailored for multiple platforms.

  • Report live on location from various news events.

  • Organize material, and write stories according to prescribed editorial story style, and formats for each of our platforms- including digital.

  • Research stories through personal contacts, the internet and other sources deciding the best angle and approach for the story.

  • Collaborate effectively with News, Promotion, Production and Engineering on daily broadcast, special projects and online coverage.

  • Make community appearances and participate in station-led initiatives.

  • Build a network of informational sources to provide exclusive stories for the Scripps brand.

  • Meet all production deadlines.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in relation discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience

  • 5+ years on-camera experience preferred


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Must connect on camera with a sense of urgency

  • Ability to cultivate sources and mine stories

  • Knowledge of newsroom computers and computer databases strongly preferred

  • Must demonstrate strong news judgment and organizational skills

  • Must have keen sense of logistics and ability to work well under intense pressure and deadlines

  • Must have good creative and editorial judgment, mastery of journalistic ethics, and libel law

  • Must be able to speak clearly and concisely

  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
