WHOOP is seeking a Research Associate for their WHOOP Labs, the product development research arm focused on human subjects research to develop next-generation features. The role involves executing remote and in-person studies, managing participant communications, and developing participant-facing materials. Responsibilities include outlining research goals, designing study protocols, creating surveys, applying human-centered design principles, answering participant questions, monitoring data submission, and troubleshooting issues. The associate will also assist with hardware and app feature testing, log observations, provide project updates, and maintain study documentation. This contract position is ideal for an early-career professional interested in human performance, UX, or human factors.

As a WHOOP Labs Research Associate, you will work alongside the WHOOP Labs team to execute remote studies and manage participant communications for Digital WHOOP Labs initiatives. You will also execute in-person research studies at WHOOP Labs in Boston. Your efforts will support the organization as we continue to push the envelope and lead the wearables industry.

This contract role is ideal for an early-career research professional with a strong interest in human performance, UX or human factors, and the operational side of study execution. You’ll operate independently on structured projects with little to no oversight. 

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Work closely with study stakeholders across the organization to outline research goals and design study protocol
  • Create participant-facing study materials including surveys, onboarding documentation, and digital content
  • Apply principles from human-centered design, human factors, or usability testing to enhance participant experience
  • Answer incoming questions from study participants about the longitudinal studies
  • Identify common questions and update supporting documentation (e.g. FAQs) with new information when appropriate
  • Monitor data submission and reach out to prompt participants with reminders if they are noncompliant
  • Support troubleshooting or other participant issues during the study window
  • Help manage the general study inbox and respond to any incoming queries about the studies you own
  • Collaborate closely with study stakeholders to ensure they are informed of study status and aligned with any protocol changes or guidance you are providing
  • Assist with usability, comfort, and interaction testing of WHOOP hardware and app features
  • Follow structured testing protocols and log observations and participant feedback
  • Attend weekly project check-ins and provide concise, accurate updates
  • Maintain documentation of your study procedures, participant communications, and protocol changes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong technical writing skills with demonstrated ability to compose clear instructions, protocols, reports, and supplemental documentation for a range of stakeholders
  • Experience writing surveys and applying best practices in survey design and deployment
  • Experience related to technical troubleshooting, customer service, or operations in a research, UX, or product setting
  • Experience communicating with study participants in person, via email, and through SMS
  • Experience handling personally identifiable information (PII) and/or protected health information (PHI)
  • Exposure to or interest in human factors, user experience, behavioral science, or physiological research
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in any relevant field (e.g., Psychology, Human Factors, Public Health, HCI, Cognitive Science, or similar)
