About the job
Key Responsibility:
Ensuring that our flagship software products are powered by state-of-the-art science and methodologies.
The candidate will be responsible for implementing and refining analyses, including wind data analysis, wind resource assessments, site design, wake-modelling, and a range of intermediary analyses. Improvements in our analyses will need to be integrated into our codebase and fully validated.
The role is perfectly suited to a scientist or engineer who has a keen eye for detail, and a passion for progressing the state-of-the-art for wind farm design and development.
Description of Role:
Our vision as a company is to be world leading at designing and evaluating new wind farm sites. We are building a set of tools, approaches and processes that combine to form a capability to undertake the technical management of wind farm development at a significantly improved level of sophistication over existing standard industry approaches.
To achieve its aim, Wind Pioneers is powered by its own software, which we use as a proving ground for new, advanced approaches.
The role is a unique opportunity to be at the cutting edge of how wind farms are designed and development.
We require someone to drive improvements to our software through from the idea stage all the way to commercial deployment. This requires someone with a good understanding of scientific and engineering principles, who can implement new analytical approaches within our software stack prior to conducting full validation studies.
Detailed Responsibilities:
This is a unique and challenging role that’s broadly classified into two subcategories:
A. Creating Scientific Services
- Identify and apply research findings to improve the accuracy and efficiency of wind resource assessment processes by integrating new technologies, methodologies, and data sources.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate research findings, tool developments, and project outcomes effectively. Research and development tasks
- Conduct validation studies
B. Software Engineering
- Supporting our development team in the development of high quality web applications for wind farm design
- Data Engineering using technology like Postgres, BigQuery, Pub/Sub and Terraform, for architecting and building event-driven systems and data lakes, for geospatial among other data types.
- Scientific Services using mostly Python and (optional but not required) Rust, for developing and maintaining performance analysis tools for designing and optimising multi-GW scale wind farms.
Candidate Requirements:
- A passion for wind resource, and for the role renewable energy can play in mitigating climate change
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline from a top-level school. PhD holders are also encouraged to apply.
- Around 3-5 years of experience in the field and in a similar role. Also capable of independent work and taking initiative in self-directing work projects.
- Experience in the wind industry would be ideal, but not a requirement.
- Proficiency with Git and Git Flow will be useful, though not mandatory.
- Basic proficiency with software development and knowledge of Python will be an added advantage.
- Fluent English including high-quality written English
- International experience preferable
- Independent worker and natural initiative-taker
- Desire to work in a small, exciting, high-growth, international start-up environment.
- Can-do, flexible and pro-active attitude to work
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm for wind energy
