Job Description

As a Senior Architect at Walt Disney's Facilities Asset Management (FAM), you'll contribute to the design and delivery of projects across Disney theme parks and resorts. Responsibilities include coordinating with various teams (Creative, Show/Ride, Operations), managing consultants, ensuring design excellence and adherence to project timelines, developing project strategies, writing detailed scopes of work and RFPs, implementing project goals, introducing innovative designs, and communicating effectively with executives. You will also prepare facility documentation and support the implementation of project goals, ensuring adherence to standards. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of renovations.
Must have:
  • Registered Architect (Florida or equivalent)
  • 6+ years architectural experience
  • Construction phase experience
  • Material specification expertise
  • Proficiency in CADD and BIM (Revit, AutoCAD)
  • Client-facing experience
  • Excellent presentation skills

This position is an individual contributor role with no direct reports and will report to the Design Integration Team Lead of Walt Disney’s Facilities Asset Management.

What You Will Do

  • Support the Facilities Asset Management organization’s project management team by coordinating the efforts of the FAM Design team with allied partners such as Creative, Show/Ride, and Operations.

  • Coordinate the efforts of a multi-discipline team of consultants to ensure design deliverables meet the requirements of the RFP and scope of work.

  • Provide support to the project management team throughout the life of the project by ensuring design excellence and adherence to project timeline from consultants.

  • Develop and execute strategies, utilizing partnerships with stakeholders, to ensure seamless execution of facilities renovation projects.

  • Write detailed scopes for work and provide RFPs to hire consultants that provide a full range of design and construction administration services.

  • Support implementation of project goals through the development of design solutions while ensuring adherence to department/divisional Standards of Practice.

  • Introduce innovative design concepts and sustainable solutions to improve the guest experience.

  • Clearly communicate architectural concepts, project status, and recommendations to facilitate decision-making at the highest levels.

  • Prepare Facility/Attraction base information documentation (e.g. existing condition descriptions).

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Registered Architect in the State of Florida or registered Architect in another State and meeting all qualifications for registration as an architect in the State of Florida.

  • 6+ years working in an architectural practice.

  • Construction phase experience including the submittal/shop drawing review process and on-site field inspections.

  • Experience specifying and detailing building materials and products for thematic applications.

  • Proficiency in CADD and BIM (Revit and AutoCAD).

  • Demonstrate technical knowledge of architectural design and construction techniques.

  • Knowledge of area development-related areas, including landscape architecture, land planning, civil engineering, site lighting, and/or graphic design.

  • Experience in a client-facing role within the architectural industry.

  • Outstanding presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to executives and other key decision-makers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of Disney theme parks and storytelling through area development; pursue deeper knowledge of Disney traditions, history, and theme parks globally through Disney educational opportunities and study (themed environments or architecture in an entertainment organization).

  • Membership in one or more professional organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute, Construction Specifications Institute, or U.S. Green Building Council.

  • Experience working with digital illustration tools such as Maya, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, or SketchUp.

  • Familiarity with facility management and operations.

  • Strong business development skills with a track record of securing and managing architectural projects.

Education

  • Bachelor of Architecture degree from an accredited program is required.

  • U.S. Professional License credential is required.

  • Master of Architecture, Urban Planning, or Landscape Architecture from an accredited program is preferred.
