IO Interactive is seeking a Senior Lighting Artist to join their team and contribute to a visually stunning world for a new IP. The role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing high-quality lighting to enhance gameplay, environments, and cinematics. The artist will collaborate with Render Programmers and Technical Artists to develop real-time lighting solutions within the Glacier engine, shaping the mood and storytelling of the game through light and shadow. The artist will also be responsible for ensuring performance-friendly lighting solutions while maintaining artistic vision, and troubleshooting technical challenges.
Must have:
  • Experience in AA/AAA game development.
  • Proficient in real-time lighting techniques.
  • Strong technical expertise.
Good to have:
  • Experience with multiple game engines.
  • Film and/or VFX experience.

We’re creating a visually stunning world, and lighting plays a key role in shaping its atmosphere, mood, and immersion. This requires both a strong artistic eye and deep technical expertise. We’re looking for a highly skilled <strong>Senior Lighting Artist</strong> to bring our vision to life, balancing creative expression with technical precision.</p>

<strong>What you will do:</strong></p><ul> <li>Design, implement, and optimise high-quality lighting that enhances gameplay, environments, and cinematics.</li> <li>Collaborate closely with Render Programmers and Technical Artists to develop real-time lighting solutions within our proprietary Glacier engine.</li> <li>Shape the mood, tone, and storytelling of the game through expert use of light and shadow.</li> <li>Ensure performance-friendly lighting solutions without compromising artistic vision.</li> <li>Troubleshoot technical challenges related to lighting and ensure seamless integration across platforms.</li> </ul><p><strong>Who you are:</strong></p><ul> <li>A seasoned lighting artist with AA/AAA game development experience.</li> <li>Proficient in real-time lighting techniques and game rendering workflows.</li> <li>Strong technical expertise, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams.</li> <li>Skilled at balancing artistic vision with technical constraints to ensure optimal performance.</li> <li>Experienced in working within game engines and adapting to new technologies.</li> <li>A strong communicator and team player who thrives in a collaborative development environment.</li> <li>Experience with multiple game engines is a plus, but not essential. </li> <li>Film and/or VFX experience is a plus, but not essential. </li> </ul><p><strong>Who we are:</strong></p><figure><img src="https://images.teamtailor-cdn.com/images/s3/teamtailor-production/gallery_picture-v6/image_uploads/c644c2a3-2123-4f5b-b881-fe026112f628/original.png" alt="linkedin_personal_cover_image_current_projects.png"></figure><p><strong><br></strong>IO Interactive is an independent videogame development and publishing company with studios in Copenhagen, Malmö, Barcelona, Istanbul and Brighton. About The Company

IO Interactive is a 25-year old, AAA independent game studio, creators of HITMAN, Kane & Lynch, Mini Ninjas and Freedom Fighters. We are currently working on Project 007, Project Fantasy, and continue to develop Glacier, our award-winning game engine.

IO Interactive was established in September 1998. The IO Interactive technology team consists of programmers, software engineers and mathematicians with considerable experience in game programming and 3D graphics. Graphic designers, artists and animators are recruited from the game and entertainment industry, as well as the best art schools from all over the world.
