As a Senior Technical Artist, you will be an integral part of Project Orion, following up on Cyberpunk 2077. You'll contribute to the development of in-house tools and establish processes within Unreal Engine 5 to support content creation teams. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with various teams, developing tools to enhance Unreal Engine 5, integrating new features, ensuring high-quality asset integration while maintaining performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks, writing optimized code, providing documentation and training, and mentoring other technical artists. This role requires you to be committed to ownership, setting goals, exchanging knowledge and driving initiatives independently.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical art role.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience developing tools in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Familiarity with procedural content systems.
  • Experience with C++ and/or Python for tool development.
  • Understanding of content performance optimization.
  • Experience with content creation software.
Good to have:
  • Understanding of GPU workflows in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience in network automation and batching.

Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join our studio to work on Project Orion, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077. In this role you will contribute to the research and development of our in-house tools and help establish and develop processes and procedures within Unreal Engine 5 to enable content development teams to meet our creative and technical goals. 

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with art directors, engineers, content designers, and artists to achieve the project's creative and technical goals.
  • Develop tools and processes that enhance Unreal Engine 5 focusing on scalability, efficiency, and ease of use.
  • Researching and integrating new features in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Ensure high-quality asset integration while maintaining performance and memory efficiency.
  • Identify and address bottlenecks in the art workflows ensuring a smooth development process.
  • Write high-quality code that is optimized, bug-free, and aligned with project goals.
  • Documentation, training, and guidance for development teams.
  • Mentoring and guiding technical artists, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a technical art role within the games industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unreal Engine 5
  • Demonstrable experience using and developing tools that help aid the Unreal content creation process (Blueprints, PCG, Editor Utility Widgets, Editor Scripts, Geometry Scripting, and Slate Editor Tools). 
  • Familiarity with procedural content systems.
  • Experience in tool development and automation using C++ and/or Python.
  • Strong understanding of content performance/memory optimization process and procedures. 
  • Experience working within content creation software (Blender, Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter).
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to overcome complex technical challenges and drive innovation in technology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to taking ownership, setting goals, exchanging knowledge and driving initiatives independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have:

(Please note that these skills are not required to apply for the position)

  • Solid understanding of GPU workflows (lighting, rendering, compute shaders), especially using Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience in network automation, batching, and packaged environment setups.

This job can be fully remote from the USA or Canada.
