Job Description

This Software Engineer III role at Google focuses on full-stack development for Google Compute Engine. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code (Java, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS), participating in design reviews, contributing to documentation, debugging system issues, and aligning API, UX, and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will have experience with large distributed systems and data structures/algorithms. The role involves working on projects critical to Google's needs, with opportunities for team and project switching. The position requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a fast-paced environment.

Must have:

2+ years full-stack development experience
Experience with Java, Python, or similar
Data structures and algorithms expertise
Code review and debugging skills

Good to have:

Master's degree in CS
Experience with large distributed systems
Experience developing accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
2 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience working with large distributed systems.
Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

Write product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
