Job Description

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Google, you'll work on hardware and software within a vertically integrated team. Responsibilities include designing software for application developers to seamlessly utilize hardware accelerators, implementing and validating firmware and Linux drivers for optimal power consumption and performance, and designing, developing, and testing embedded software drivers for next-generation smart devices. You'll collaborate with hardware designers, read schematics, and contribute to the development of critical projects impacting billions of users. The role requires expertise in embedded programming (C/C++), kernel development (Linux, RTOS), device drivers, and interface protocols (USB, SPI, I2C, etc.).
Must have:
  • Embedded programming (C/C++)
  • Kernel/Firmware development (Linux, RTOS)
  • Device driver experience
  • Embedded systems expertise
  • Interface protocols (e.g., USB, SPI)
  • Hardware/Software integration
Good to have:
  • Power management
  • System integration
  • Graphics engine experience
  • ARM/low-power SoC architectures
  • Experience with schematics
  • Software stacks and drivers

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in development, testing and deployment of consumer electronics/embedded systems.
  • Experience with embedded programming in C/C++.
  • Experience with embedded systems, kernel, Linux, RTOS or firmware, device driver.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with interface protocols (e.g., USB, SPI, I2C, UART, UFS, PCIe), power management, system integration, Software stacks, Drivers.
  • Experience with Graphics engine and corresponding software stack.
  • Experience working with hardware designers and reading schematics.
  • Experience with ARM or other low-power SoC architectures, memory system, fabric, etc.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems development, RTOS concepts, device drivers and hardware/software integration.
  • Knowledge of ARM, system BIOS, Linux kernel, device drivers.
