SummaryBy Outscal

A Principal Product Designer (UX/UI) is needed to lead strategic UX/UI direction and represent the discipline in a multi-disciplinary team. They'll work on end-to-end product development, from discovery to delivery, utilizing design systems, research, and data-driven decision-making. Strong communication, collaboration, and experience with Agile methodologies are essential.

About the job

A flexible, passionate, and enthusiastic Principal Product designer (UX/UI); who leads in terms of the strategic UX/UI direction and represents the UX and Design discipline in a multi-disciplinary team setting. This is a versatile hands-on role with a focus on the end-to-end process of discovery through to delivery for certain areas of our programmes of work. This will suit designers who are happy to get stuck into creating and iterating core deliverables as well as paving the direction for the project.

They will be able to balance being a strategic thinker and diligent doer; who can take a holistic view of our offering and how things connect to one another, but equally be detail-oriented enough to design feasible solutions using an established design system, and support through the build phase.

They will have an acute understanding of research and testing (but not be expected to be a UX researcher), and be cognizant of the role it must play in the overall product lifecycle to ensure we “build the right thing, and build the thing right”. They will be a strong advocate of evidence-based design decision-making; through data, research, observation, insight and analytics (even if they haven’t had active roles specifically in research before).

They will be an analytical thinker and problem-solver — passionate about creating elegant product experiences that balance achieving business goals and address user pain points. They will be curious and able to factor into the decision-making, business processes that they have to work within, and any technical constraints that may exist that affect the solutions that can be built.

These designers will be self-sufficient, autonomous individuals — well-versed in knowing when it’s appropriate to discover and explore options; and when and how to move designs through to validation, testing and build in a nimble and agile way. They will be adept to creating detailed design artefacts for implementation, seeing them through the delivery process with Engineering. They will spearhead and advocate how we can best measure impact and value of the solutions we build in our programmes.

The attitude and approach to tackling design challenges and collaboration — are probably the most important aspects of this role. They will exercise the skills of excellent written and oral communication, persuasive storytelling and rationale-building to help reach conclusions. They will represent our discipline and advocate for the best user experience possible within the parameters/constraints that may exist.

They will show great skill in being flexible, pragmatic and resilient, and be a true team player that is vocal and confident — skilled in playing an active (and proactive role) in contributing to the team dialogue, to reach conclusions and decisions together.
