Job Description

This Software Engineer III role at Google Cloud Platform focuses on designing and implementing server system software to support various workloads and manageability needs. Responsibilities include designing tools for automating diagnostics, performance evaluation, and reliability assurance. Collaboration with internal and external partners is crucial for planning and executing engineering programs, including product development and productivity improvements. The ideal candidate will possess strong system software development and testing experience (firmware, BIOS, BSP, Linux kernel, BMC, device drivers, system libraries), proficiency in C/C++ and data structures/algorithms, and familiarity with Unix/Linux environments. Experience with developer operations, release management, and open-source development is preferred. The role involves contributing innovative solutions to critical Google projects within a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in CS/related field
2+ years system software dev & testing exp.
2+ years C/C++ exp. with data structures/algorithms
2+ years Unix/Linux environment experience
Design & implement server system software
Develop automation tools for diagnostics & reliability

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS/related field
DevOps, release management experience
Open source development experience
Experience with Linux Boot, coreboot, bootloader, or Linux kernel
Python/Go and scripting language experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience in system software development and testing (e.g., firmware, Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), Board Support Package (BSP), Linux kernel, Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), device drivers, and system libraries).
2 years of experience with software development in C or C++, and with data structures or algorithms.
2 years of experience with Unix/Linux environments.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with developer operations, release management, integration testing, open source development or Open Compute Projects (OCP).
Experience in server system software development with Linux Boot, coreboot, boot loader, or Linux kernel.
Experience in Python/Go and scripting languages (e.g., shell).
