Microsoft's MAIA architecture team seeks a Principal Processor Architect to design and optimize processors for AI applications. Responsibilities include analyzing and optimizing processor performance for AI applications, focusing on throughput, latency, and power efficiency; developing and implementing processor architectures (instruction sets, execution units, memory subsystems); profiling and analyzing application performance; collaborating with hardware and software teams; and researching innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in processor architecture and AI algorithm optimization, along with strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of related technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Controlled Technology: 

This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information.  To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable. 

 

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience.
    • Coding Language including phyton.

Silicon Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

As a Processor Architect with a focus on AI applications, you will be responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and designing AI algorithms and processors.  

  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize the performance of processor for AI specific applications, focusing on throughput, latency, and power efficiency. 
  • Design and Development: Develop and implement processor architectures, including instruction sets, execution units, and memory subsystems, with a focus on maximizing application performance. 
  • Application Profiling, simulation, and modeling: Profile and analyze application performance to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization within processor architecture. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless integration of processor into larger systems and to optimize application performance. 
  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI related technologies, and apply innovative solutions to improve application performance.
