We’re looking for Back-End Software Engineering Interns to join our engineering team. Reporting to an Engineering manager, you’ll be responsible for:
- Work on scalable, high-performance systems that power critical business processes.
- Design and implement services and APIs to optimize performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of backend systems with front-end applications.
- Dive into real-world challenges, such as logging optimization and observability, to improve system efficiency.
What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- Rising Sophomore or Junior actively pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field in progress
- Proficient in programming languages like Python, Java, or C++.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Familiarity with database systems, such as SQL or NoSQL databases.
What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience working with distributed systems and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Knowledge of telemetry, logging frameworks, or monitoring tools.
- Hands-on experience building APIs or microservices in a real-world or academic setting.
Example Projects You Might Work On
- Develop and optimize APIs to enhance system performance and scalability.
- Implement robust logging and monitoring systems for better observability of backend services.
- Design and deploy microservices architecture for a key business feature.
- Build automated tools to test and validate backend system performance.
- Enhance the reliability and efficiency of existing data pipelines and services.

Zscaler’s salary ranges are benchmarked and are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.
