Job Description

As a Sound Designer II, you will be responsible for bringing life to the characters and experiences within the game. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to drive projects from inception, guiding team decisions, and providing valuable feedback. Your role involves developing and executing audio visions, defining audio goals, collaborating with vendors, and implementing assets using in-house tools. The role also involves ensuring the quality of asset output, playtesting, and gathering feedback to meet the players' expectations.

Job Details

As a Sound Designer, your technical and creative audio skills will combine to bring life to the broad range of characters and experiences in our games. Joining efforts with a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll help drive projects from their inception. Using your passion, creativity, and critical thinking you will help guide team decisions and provide valuable feedback to your peers. As a member of the audio discipline, you’ll strive to find ways to teach and level up those around you while continuing to challenge and grow yourself. As a Sound Designer II on Creative eXpressions, you will report into the Sound Design Manager. You will be focused on partnering with the Teamfight Tactics and the Fight For the Golden Spatula teams to deliver audio experiences that surpass players expectations. You will balance giving audio guidance to vendors and partners with creative audio design, when necessary. With direction and feedback, you can hit the quality of your craft, and are always hungry to apply what you have learned to the next challenge.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the audio vision for characters, skin lines, or other recurring features
  • Clearly define and communicate content audio goals, including how they align with product goals
  • Working with external vendors to ensure they deliver high-quality work
  • Collaborate with the FFGS team and other disciplines to define appropriate processes and pipelines for effective audio content delivery
  • Collaborate with music, video, and other central teams to ensure thematic consistency across in-game and out-of-game features
  • Record, edit, and design sound effects for game characters, skin lines, and other recurring features using industry-standard methods and tools
  • Use in-house engine tools and Wwise to implement assets directly into the game
  • Ensure quality of asset output by playtesting and gathering daily feedback on your content from your team and discipline

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Mandarin and English
  • Expertise in the holistic game audio process (Sound Design, Voice Over, Music Implementation, Technology, Player Experience, etc.)
  • Knowledge of sound design creation tools (ProTools, Nuendo, Reaper, Izotope, Waves, Native Instruments, etc) & techniques
  • Knowledge of sound design, voiceover & music implementation methods
  • Knowledge of audio middleware (Wwise, Fmod, etc.) and overall game engine technology (Unreal, Unity, Lumberyard, etc.)
  • Strong communication & collaboration skills (Individual, Team)
  • Ability to navigate stakeholder, senior leadership, discipline, and team feedback effectively
  • Ability to own the total quality and value of the experiences we deliver to our audience
  • Ability to overcome change & challenges to deliver results
  • Ability to develop constructive working relationships with others to achieve team goals
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certificate/Bachelors in audio/music engineering or equivalent industry experience (2+ years)
  • Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (Lua, Python, etc.)
  • Ability to lead and own mid-scope discipline and product team efforts such as cross-discipline team knowledge shares/classes, etc
