Job Description

The Staff Software Engineer at Google Enterprise Network (GEN) leads a team responsible for automating network management systems. This role is crucial in delivering a new, more secure and agile enterprise networking model. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, code review, contributing to documentation, triaging issues, and debugging. The ideal candidate possesses strong software development skills, experience with distributed systems, and a proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams. The position involves working with cutting-edge technologies to scale and manage Google's network infrastructure.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
Data structures/algorithms expertise
5+ years testing and launching software
3+ years software design and architecture
Team leadership and technical direction

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in related field
Experience with infrastructure/distributed systems
Networking domain experience
Experience with accessible technologies
Cross-functional project experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
Experience building and developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Experience working in the networking domain.
Experience developing accessible technologies.

You will play a key role in bringing a new model for enterprise networking to the market that is more secure and has much greater development velocity than traditional networking solutions.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style, guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
