Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team seeks a skilled engineer for their Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg. Responsibilities include leading supplier industrialization activities from R&D to mass production, encompassing product development, qualification, and quality control. The role requires fostering communication between suppliers and internal Tesla teams, conducting supplier audits, and driving process improvements. Successful candidates will possess a degree in engineering, 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, quality, or research, and expertise in PPAP/APQP, SPC, GD&T, and lean manufacturing. Extensive domestic and international travel is expected (30-40%). The goal is to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components to support Tesla's rapid development cycles and product launches.

What to Expect

Tesla’s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for component development, part and process qualification activities, quality management, and continuous improvement activities at suppliers. The job requires effective communication at all levels both with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: developing suppliers by teaching best practices for manufacturing, quality, and engineering, delivering on time quantities of high quality component parts into Tesla’s production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches, driving lean manufacturing principals to reduce waste and improve quality. 

What You’ll Do
  • Lead Supplier Industrialization activities from R&D phase to mass production including product development, qualification, quality control and initiate New Product Introduction.
  • Scout Innovation for Quality and Cost optimization from the supply base and support Design for Manufacturing feedback into Engineering teams. 
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering teams. 
  • Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet material performance, delivery, and reliability expectations. 
  • Drive tracking and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes. 
  • Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers. 
  • Project manage the supply chain scope at a global level driving steps forward and continuous improvement on the technical and cost reduction level.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical, Physics or evidence of experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing, research, or quality engineering, with demonstrated evidence of excellence
  • Experience in Supplier Industrialization, Customer Quality, and Product or Application Development at Raw Material producer or qualified automotive supplier
  • Knowledge of PPAP/APQP processes and automotive technical knowledge
  • Display an advanced working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Lean Manufacturing, and how to apply these skills to improve quality, capacity, and reduce cost.
  • Hands-on and ready to work on a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent spoken and written English 
  • Domestic and international travel (expected 30 - 40% of the time), sometimes on short notice
