Job Description

The Vice President - Software Development is responsible for ensuring the team processes are understood, followed, and improved. They are responsible for developing and evaluating personnel to ensure efficient operation, continued growth, and positive employee engagement. They also ensure the delivery of business goals assigned to the team. Responsibilities include leading a team to develop quality software, providing training and mentorship, participating in Agile meetings, producing feature enhancements, encouraging collaboration, providing leadership, budgeting for projects, and establishing a customer-focused culture. They work with other leaders to establish processes and standards, communicate with executives, and contribute to engineering-wide strategy.
Must have:
  • Provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Communicate with users and technical teams.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices.
  • Resolve conflict and drive consensus.
  • Provide technical feedback on architecture and code review.
  • 10+ years professional experience in software development.
  • 2+ years of experience leading a development team.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to contribute to software design documentation.
  • Ability to present complex technical designs.
  • Ability to work with databases.
  • Experience building scalable distributed software systems.
  • Professional experience working with Cloud Platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Experience taking a project from scoping requirements through launch.
Good to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Proficiency using modern web development technologies (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience in full system design and architecture.
  • Experience developing and designing a public facing API.
  • Experience with database scaling and design.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team to develop quality software that is used by some of the world’s largest technology firms, fixed income asset managers, and security traders on Wall Street

  • Responsible for ensuring a team’s success, growth, and output

  • Providing training, guidance, and mentorship to individuals on the team

  • Participating in Agile meetings to contribute with development strategies and product roadmap

  • Producing tremendous feature enhancements and reacting quickly to emerging technologies

  • Encouraging collaboration and stimulating creativity

  • Providing leadership and expertise to our ever-growing workforce

  • Structures the organization and prioritizes work to achieve company goals with high quality and customer satisfaction. Adapts the organization and its practices to the changing needs of the business

  • Responsible for budgeting for projects and headcount

  • Establishes a strong, collaborative, customer-focused culture that pervades all levels of the organization

  • Works with other leaders at multiple levels to establish processes, policies, and standards across engineering and in some cases across other disciplines

  • Able to communicate effectively with Clearwater executives as well as external ones

  • Contributes to engineering-wide strategy and best practices and applies them to their organization and beyond as necessary

  • Aligns organization strategy and goals with those of the company

  • Builds self-sufficient teams that work effectively without excessive oversight

  • Provides mentorship across the engineering organization

  • Identifies and drives resolution of critical issues that impact company success.

  • Influences teams across Clearwater to achieve company and organizational goals.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback to team members

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, identify tasks, provide estimates and meet production deadlines

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle

  • Ability to resolve conflict within and across teams and drive consensus to achieve common goals

  • Ability to provide technical feedback and guidance on architecture, code review, and best practices

  • 10+ years professional experience in software development

  • 2+ years of experience leading a development team.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Ability to contribute to software design documentation, presentation, sequence diagrams

  • Ability to present complex technical designs in a concise manner.

  • Ability to work with relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Experience building highly scalable distributed software systems

  • Professional experience working with Cloud Platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)

  • Experience taking a project from scoping requirements through actual launch

Desired Experience or Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Proficiency using modern web development technologies and techniques, including (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript)

  • Experience in full system design and architecture

  • Experience developing and designing a public facing API

  • Experience with database scaling and design
