CAE is looking for a Contract Manager / Commercial Lead for its Defence and Security International business unit. The role involves managing contract execution, negotiating modifications, ensuring compliance, and mitigating risks. The candidate will also act as a commercial lead, supporting business development strategies for growth and competitiveness. Key responsibilities include developing procurement and delivery strategies, managing supplier relationships, providing contractual advice, identifying and managing risks, reviewing and negotiating contracts, managing contract performance, and providing guidance to stakeholders. The role requires analyzing contract data to identify improvements and enhance customer satisfaction and engagement globally.
Must have:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree
  • Membership with a law society

Position Overview

CAE is seeking a dynamic and experienced Contract Manager / Commercial Lead to join our team as part of the Defence and Security International business unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing contract execution, negotiating modifications, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions, and mitigating risks associated with contractual obligations. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of industry standards. Additionally, the Contract Manager / Commercial Lead will act as a commercial lead, supporting business development in developing strategies to help the business achieve growth and stay competitive.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for procurement and delivery

  • Manage supplier relationships and negotiate contracts and deals

  • Provide contractual advice and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to contract administration

  • Identify and manage risks associated with contractual obligations

  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts to protect the organization's interests while minimizing risk exposure

  • Manage contract performance and identify potential issues or disputes early on to prevent costly litigation

  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding contract interpretation and implementation

  • Conduct thorough analysis of contract data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement in contract negotiation and administration practices

  • Develop strategies to help the business grow and stay competitive, working with internal and external stakeholders to improve customer satisfaction and engagement

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school

  • Membership in good standing with a provincial or territorial law society

  • Minimum of five years of experience in contract management

  • Strong knowledge of legal principles and concepts relevant to contract formation, interpretation, and enforcement

  • Negotiation skills: Secure favorable contracts and deals

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and contract management software

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

  • Financial acumen: Understand financial concepts and interpret financial data

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Analytical thinking: Analyze complex data and make strategic decisions

  • Strategic vision: Develop strategies to help the business grow and stay competitive

  • Customer-centric focus: Prioritize the needs of customers

  • Global perspective: Consider the needs of customers worldwide

  • The ideal candidate would also be proficient in using AI tools and technologies to leverage AI to enhance contract management processes, improve decision-making, and drive business growth

  • Bilingualism in French & English is required
